Re: Danny Ric at Mclaren?????
I hope not. I just can't see McLaren challenging say Mercedes until the new regulations kick in (and who knows what could happen then). Danny Ric would be well aware that Renault have been slow to close the gap in engine power and still have poor reliability. McLaren are going to experience that in...

I find it interesting the number of people who are saying fuel economy has no place in motorsport. Fuel economy has been an issue since the beginning - go back and watch some races with Senna in the 80's in the first turbo era. You will hear the commentators talking about fuel saving. This is becaus...

Hamilton and Alonso have both done the hard yards in F1 - it's ridiculous that a driver of Alonso's talent has only won 2 titles, whereas only Graham Hill has waited as long as Hamilton did for his 2nd title. Whereas Vettel just showed up in the right car at the right time and won races and titles ...

But I have no doubt Seb would wipe the floor with Ricciardo. That Red Bull season was a one-off anomaly because of a mixture of incredible bad luck and Seb not getting on with the car for that year. Garbage. How is an entire season a "one-off"? Ricciardo wiped the floor with Sebastian. They had the...

I think he's a bit overrated.
It's true he hasn't had a stellar car to get decent results with, but he also hasn't shown anything to justify the hype.
He deserves more time in F1 and probably a better car next year, but he's no superstar.

Good. It’s good to see drivers call out each other for flaunting the rules and the officials for not enforcing them. Hamilton’s excuse that he wants to wave to his fans is vain beyond reason. Another chaotic Bathurst 1000 result. Good to see Erebus & Dave Reynolds get the win, they really are a small team and Dave has been threatening to pull out a good result for years. Trust the Hamilton fans to throw a vote his way. Lewis did nothing today to deserve to be a driver of the day. He got passed (easily) by Verstappen, then spent the whole race losing time to Ricciardo. If the Red Bull team had pulled Ricciardo in earlier Hamilton would have been third. Verstappen was...

Ricciardo is exceptionally good. In 2014 he was still a rookie and walked all over the reigning 4 x champion in the same car. In the 3 races where Mercedes didn't drive away, it was Ricciardo who was there to take the win. And the passes he made to get those wins were phenomenal. Every time he start...

Re: Is Hamilton now rising to be the best of his generation?
I think the 2014-2016 years have been extremely kind to Hamilton. His McLaren years started off well, but he didn't appear to be dragging the car up the grid between 2009 and 2012 (unlike say Alonso was in at Ferrari). Would Hamilton be even considered in this kind of thread as one of the best if he...

This result is non-representative and being in a Renault, he should have been achieving top 10s all year. In practice and qualifying his lap speed was around a second off Hulkenberg consistently. Watching the video again, I think Verstappen also has to take some blame. The initial contact was Kimi's right rear wheel with Vertstappen's front left wheel. Re: Is Hamilton now rising to be the best of his generation?
It's really difficult to answer this. Based only on results, Hamilton is a close second behind Vettel. But these drivers had dominant cars for much of their success. Both excelled when in dominant cars and both have arguably struggled when in less-than-dominant cars (Hamilton in the 2009-2012 McLare...

In the first 7 races in 2012, 7 different drivers won from 5 different teams. The V8 engines provided a level of parity not seen in many many years (maybe ever). The 4 years of Red Bull dominance, I believe, is not comparable to the 2014-2016 dominance of Mercedes. Whilst Red Bull ultimately came ou...

Maybe all the retirements are Verstappens fault. Why did he stay with Red Bull? Why not change team like Hamilton. Hamilton has had tougher teammates and he has raced during a more competitive era than Michael and yet he is still compiling similar statistics. That's worthy of note.
