Re: Driver(s) of the Day - 2018 Austrian Grand Prix
I see the repeat offender voting for Hamilton has struck again... There were much better drives out there today. Some even managed to go more than 5 minutes without destroying their tyres. Ericsson was a highlight for me. Verstappen drove very well to manage his tyres and win in a Red Bull at their ...

Re: 2018 Austrian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thre
I find the Red Bull qualifying strategy a little strange, some tracks would yield a much bigger difference from the tow than others. Austria, being a track with very few corners, would surely provide a bigger difference from the tow. Red Bull struggle at Austria. It’s no wonder Ricciardo was concern...

Re: The Official Stoffel Vandoorne Thread
There does seem to be a difference between drivers who excel in junior series and those who excel in F1. It's constantly said that in F1, the driver is doing so much more than turning the wheels, changing gears, accelerating and braking. There's constant management of the tyres (on another level to ...

Re: when, and to where, will the Ricciardo move take place?
I'm not sure why we're doing this now again as if this is new. Max's bad luck came at far more inconvenient times. Dan didn't win the team battle because he drove better. *Facepalm* The reason it's being done again is because there's a select couple of people who seem to be unable to admit Ricciard...

I didn't rate Palmer as a driver and I felt his attitude was quite lacking during his stint in F1. I disagree that there's any insight in his column. I don’t know why people are even entertaining the thought that Ricciardo would go to Renault. He’s made it very clear he wants to be in a car that can win the title in 2019. That’s not going to be Renault, regardless of Red Bull’s Honda move. If he can’t find a seat at Merc or Ferrari, he’ll stay at...

Re: [MERGED] McLaren's wearing no clothes? / issues sans Hon
How sad to see McLaren having no answers for their lack of pace. Once such a strong team. The fact neither Alonso nor Vandoorne seem to have any idea why the car is slow suggests it's not a balance issue, but just an all round lack of grip. The chassis is bad. The Renault is clearly capable of more,...

Qualifying mainly. They seem to have great race pace, but quite often aren't on the front row and sometimes at the back of the top 6. Well the OP definitely opened a can of worms... On one hand, the top drivers get paid what the market (teams) are willing to pay for them. Their pays are high on the scale of sportspeople, but they also have a much riskier job than most. Their actual professional career is also relatively short, fro...

I do not think Hamilton has been in any serious discussions with Ferrari. The banter with Hamilton saying "He has a veto so that wouldn't happen" was genuine, not some bizarre role-playing. Is this a thread about Ricciardo being a dark horse for the 2018 title, or another swimming pool contest about which RB driver is faster? I don't really think it's acceptable. These are two teams commercially unrelated - they don't have the same parent company or any such structure. The only relationship is FI being a Mercedes customer. But this happens throughout the grid with various components. Mercedes should not be dictating FI m...

Wehrlein lost his spot on the grid due to lacking performance and seemingly some attitude problems. I just can’t imagine that fitting well with the Red Bull program.

I can't work out whether Ricciardo's in a really good position, or actually quite an awkward one. I completely agree and your post overall hits the nail on the head. Daniel should be looking at the situation which happened in the Chinese GP where Ferrari used Raikkonen to hold up Bottas and allow Vettel to attack. Ricciardo... another aggressive but clean win. It's no mean feat to put such moves on drivers like Hamilton, Raikkonen, Vettel and Bottas and have them come off cleanly at the first attempt.
