Re: It's finally happened...
Interesting discussion. The more I think of it, the more I realize how times have changed, flipping reality in some ways... Indeed, cars were often stranded off-track in the past to be recovered after the race session ended. There was no need for "4-wheels off" rules back then, because 4-wheels off ...

Re: It's finally happened...
Without wishing to get us off-topic, what does that young lady think about SC interventions in general? Because that invention lies at the heart of the trouble with AD21. By now we've watched a couple hundred Safety Car situations, so I disagree... a SC in general does not lie at the heart of the t...

Firstly just want to thank-you for introducing me to the word 'elide'. We shouldn't confuse short attention spans with an inability to see through hype. The only "young" F! fan I know is the daughter of a local friend. An avid fan, too which is encouraging. But, at age 20, she saw right through the "FIX" in AD21. She was disgusted, as I was. Point is, it's one thing t...

Re: It's finally happened...
Since 1982, I've recorded every F1 race except 3, on VHS and now DVD. I missed the three because of technical recording issues, such as electrical power disruptions which delete timer settings on the rare occasion when I'm out of town. The point... No one can suggest I'm not a loyal, long-time F1 fa...

Verstappen impresses me as a contemporary version of Ayrton Senna... to the extreme. Re: Does anyone actually like Max or Lewis?
I think both have likeable traits. Max is an absolute racer who really only wants to be racing and hates everything else about being an F1 driver (apart from the money I'd bet). He's very straight talking and straight forward. There is absolutely no bull with Max. He's honest and doesn't really car...

First, I'll state that I am not a Verstappen fan in any way. That said, you have to hand it to VER for his romp through the field to second place. And he didn't shove anyone off the track doing so, even Hamilton. Still, Fernando Alonso gets twice as many votes as VER for Driver of the day, driving f...

The concept of different color T-bars, halos, brows, etc, would NOT be necessary at all if only the car numbers were big enough to read. I hope Mercedes gets this and provides readable numbers in 2023.
The Haas livery is boring, as usual.

It is worth noting that nearly all the details of the relationship came out after Senna had died and from her and that she got a book deal off of it too. Nearly all the photos of them together are from later in 1985 onwards, when she was 17. But I agree, it is still pretty weird by todays standards...

The US has hosted three races in the past (1982, Detroit, Long Beach AND Las Vegas). I recall at the time it was an experiment to see if the audience for F! would grow in the US. Bottom line, it didn't. And I doubt that three races in the US in 2023 will be any different. Ten years from now, the onl...

Length makes the cars clumsy for racing, especially in slower corners. A practical example, imagine going through your house carrying 2x 150cm x 30cm planks under each arm, keeping them level and straight..... now imagine doing it with 200cm planks https://preview.redd.it/dzcbf2trrzd21.png?width=96...

Random Thoughts Comparing F1 Generations
This photo from today's planetf1 home page got me thinking. The width of track space within the starting grid at a 2022 race is about as wide as a typical F1 track (Spa, Silverstone, Monza) in the 1950-1960s. Remember, the cars were narrower, too... https://d3cm515ijfiu6w.cloudfront.net/wp-content/u...

Just watched it. It was good but to be honest I've watched so many documentaries over the years it didn't add much new for me. Re: Will the 2023 grid be stronger than the 2022 grid?
IMO, the grid will be stronger due to improvements in the cars, not the drivers. The first year of a major rules change (2022) is a shake-down cruise. In subsequent years, teams correct miss-steps in design and execution, which makes for a stronger field overall. It's nice to have good drivers in an...

Re: Do red bull have a max verstappen problem.
IMO, hiring Ricciardo as reserve driver fires an unspoken shot over the bow of (at least one) toy-filled pram, maybe both. Refuse to play nicely at team direction in 2023, and a well experienced Danny Ric is just sitting there, fully ready to hop in. Don't know if this will happen. But if I were RBR...
