Re: F1 Oracle Competition: 13 questions

Just a question. How can anyone be said to have qualified better than their WDC standing at the first race? What are you going to use as the comparison? I addressed that issue in the OP: For the Australian race, the WDC ranking of 2015 will be used to answer questions 4 through 7. This also means t...

Re: F1 Oracle Competition: 13 questions

To (hopefully) encourage others to join the competition, I'm giving my predictions early. Australia 1. Pole: Rosberg 2. Race winner: Hamilton 3. Fastest lap: Vettel 4. Quali surprise: Sainz 5. Quali victim: Raikkonen 6. Overachiever: Sainz 7. Underperformer: Kvyat 8. First Lap hero: Raikkonen 9. Fir...

Re: F1 Oracle Competition: 13 questions

Yes, getting all 13 right will be virtually impossible. I want to keep the points system as simple as possible, hence the 1 point per question. But maybe it's a good idea to increase the bonus points, say: 10 good answers: +3 bonus; 11 good answers: +4 bonus; 12 good answers: +5 bonus; 13 good answe...

Re: It is crunch time for Sainz Jr.

Of course, Gasly could go on and win this year's GP2 Championship and we'd all be wondering how five drivers would go into four seats, and speculating whether Kvyat will make way for Verstappen, or Sainz might be dropped, or even Ricciardo leaving for another team. He definitely needs a strong 2016...

F1 Oracle 2016: 13 questions

We don’t have enough F1 competitions and fantasy leagues. Er, yes we do. But this one is different. Honest. The rules are simple. Before every race weekend you predict the answers to 13 questions . Every answer that turns out to be right, earns you 1 (one) point. If you predict 10 or more right answ...

Re: New Qualifying Format - Staggered Eliminations

Let me ask this question then: is there any reason to expect a worse race as a result of this (relatively small) change in the qualifying format? If not, then I fail to see the problem.

Re: New Qualifying Format - Staggered Eliminations

Well, I would be looking forward to the start of the season anyway, no matter what qualifying system. I liked the previous one, but I do expect that there will be some more surprises on Saturday which will then translate to more interesting racing on Sundays. And the race is the main show.

Re: Another Fantasy Game

I too think that the option of playing a joker driver who is in your team selection already, is a bit odd. Also, if you choose Hamilton and Mercedes in your 'team' and then play the Hamilton joker, you're basically getting Hamilton’s points three times. That’s not necessarily a problem, but not very...

Re: It is crunch time for Sainz Jr.

Kvyat will be under even more pressure this year. There is a real danger that he will be trying to over-drive his car, especially if the STR cars turn out to be faster than RBR in the early part of the season. If Ricciardo (end of contract?) gets the chance to move to Merc or Ferrari, Red Bull may c...

Re: CarlPotter's Top Three Championship 2016

TypingChicane and I will be teaming up under the name of Crash & Learn. We may not have experience on our side, but we will be trying our enthusiastic best, and hope not to rack up too many racing incidents in the course of our (perhaps wildly optimistic) title bid. ;) Just to quickly recap our str...

Re: Tyres and qualifying?

I believe the softest compounds have to be used for Q3, but otherwise the rule remains that the tyres a driver used to qualify with in Q2 will be the tyres he starts with. Anyone know different? I heard or read the same. A question I still have is whether this rule applies to the top 10 or the top ...

Re: Driver coaching ban may lead to better racing.....?

I suspect this will favor the drivers with more experience and also the more decisive drivers. It will be very interesting to seen which drivers make the right calls at the right time, and which drivers always seem to be one step behind. It could make some of the team battles more interesting.

Without looking up the seasons since the mid eighties, I can only think of one other circuit that hasn't been mentioned above: Phoenix (USA).

Re: CarlPotter's Top Three Championship 2016

Now that I have turned from lurker to poster, I may just as well join in on some of the fun and games. I'm in. If anybody's willing to take a chance on a complete rookie, I'm up for joining a team -- but since I've no idea how well I'll do, I admit that would be a gamble! We could make a rookie team...

Re: Hulk vs. Perez 2016

Now that drivers can each choose their tyres from the ones that get nominated by Pirelli, it will be interesting to see if this leads to different strategies within teams. Force India seem to be a team that would encourage taking big risks on strategy. I expect Perez to go for the harder compounds /...
