Re: 2024 Japanese Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
It does feel that no matter how well bottas does, it is highly likely that there will be a 20+ seconds stop ruin the result tomorrow.

Re: PF1 Forum teammate wars vote: Australia 2024
So, Magnussen beats Hülkenberg in qualifying but falls behind him in the race because Hülkenberg pitted under VSC. Magnussen goes on to finish one place behind him. But Hülkenberg easily wins the TMW - okay ... ? I think that's probably a case of people not knowing that happened. ... and ...

Re: PF1 Forum teammate wars vote: Australia 2024
Everyone can have their opinions, but there are a number of drivers, that to me have way too many votes - or somehow even more than their teammates when it just doens't seem realistic. Alonso: Other than a very small pace advantage, what exactly has he done to get 10 votes vs 18 to Stroll. Stroll ma...

Re: PF1 Forum teammate wars vote: Australia 2024
Some easy ones, some not so easy ones. First, the easy: Verstappen over Perez -- Obviously. Sainz over Leclerc -- Also obviously. Norris over Piastri -- Not particularly close. Russell over Hamilton -- Lewis retired pretty early on, but I didn't see anything to suggest he was going to be quicker th...

But unles RB improve significently, it is more or less guarenteed that they will be beaten every time to victory. Red Bull on the other hand, that may be a struggle ;) :?: RB are what the team formerly known as Alpha Tauri are now called. Making the abbreviation of Red Bull to RB confusing. But I d...

Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
The team mate wars this year have had at least two teams each race that have been pretty trick to decide on, and I think it is going to be two or more again this time. If Hulkenberg actually benefitted from a VSC pit stop, got outqualified my magnussen, and magnussen had to let him through, followed...

The RB beater! Not hard to beat an RB with a ferrari at all ;) most drivers beat at least one of them. Maybe harder beating a red bull, but not so much when it isn’t verstappen driving it and when the ferrari is arguably as good too. Well, there is only one driver who has beaten RB to a GP victory ...

Sainz for victory! 8) ... and he did it! RB should hire him if they want the clean sweep. Perez, on the other hand, ... RBs one weakness seems to be in dirty air. Sainz proving he needs to be in a top car, Red Bull or Mercedes, he didn't deserve to lose his Ferrari seat, apparently Perez's floor was damaged which explains his poor performance so that doesn't exactly make things straight forward for saying Perez out. He doesn't do this well often enough to pr...

Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
I just think they are inconsistent with what they give out. I think he should get a time penalty, but not 20 seconds. 20 second penalty for Alonso. Drops to P8. Wow, that's a far more major penalty than has been handed out recently. The stewards said: 'This season, the FIA Formula 1 penalty guideli...

https://www.racefans.net/2024/03/24/alonso-hit-with-20-second-penalty-for-potentially-dangerous-driving/ A good description of the reasoning for the penalty here and it does make me understand the 20 second penalty a bit better. Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
If Sainz hadn't missed a race he'd very likely be leading the WDC right now. 20 second penalty for Alonso. Drops to P8. Wow, that's a far more major penalty than has been handed out recently. Seeing the replays, it does look and sound like alonso lifted more than once and clearly was slower than normal. I do think he should get a penalty for what he did, but I do think Russell's crash wasn't just alonso's fault.

Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
Well, their certainly was next to no difference between alonso and Stroll today. Alonso gained 10 seconds as well as track position during his free stop, otherwise he will have had to pass others as well as Stroll to beat him, which I'm actually unconvinced he could have today. For once, I think I c...

This will have been a solid amount of points for Bottas if not for the teams awful performance in the pits. He looked set to finish ahead of the Haas and passed Albon early on as well. Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
Sainz is doing incredibly well. However, I do think part of the reason why Sainz has looked better or close to Leclerc quite a bit over the past seasons is because Leclerc just isn't as good as people think he is. I don't think he's at the level of a top driver.

I think Verstappen's complaints and mistake were all related to this.
