Re: 2019 Mercedes vs. Ferrari vs. Red bull

So it's clear that things have changed at this point. Ferrari seem to have fully unlocked their package and a few things are now apparent. One is that their electrical energy deployment is just on a completely different level to everyone else. Their acceleration out of corners is totally in a class ...

Re: It's not the car, it's Lewis!

I think Lewis rates both Max and Charles and he has had almost exclusively positive comments for both of them. With good reason too. I think F1 finds itself in a very lucky position to have 2 drivers; both just 21 years of age and already so clearly outstanding in their performance level. Both Max a...

Re: 2019 Russian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Threa

Bottas himself only lost WDC points once, Russia 2018. No, Singapore 2019, Germany 2018, probably many more. It counts as Bottas losing WDC points if he is prevented from gaining them from Hamilton. Ditto has Hamilton lost WDC points to Bottas? I don't think so, maybe once late in the season one ti...

Re: 2019 Russian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Threa

This track should suit Mercedes without a shadow of a doubt. Some statistics: 1. Mercedes are the only team to have won in Russia since the first race in Sochi in 2014. 2. Hamilton won in 2014, 2015 and 2018, Nico Rosberg in 2016 and Bottas in 2017. 3. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, in 2017, is the on...

Potentially, next year could be the year where the Leclerc+Ferrari combination turns into a formidable force. And yes, I know that I sound like a typical optimistic Ferrari fan. I'm not a Ferrari fan, and I also have that feeling. This really looks like the beginning of something special. It's a st...

On a side note; Charles should be absolutely livid. Why is it that Ferrari consistently give Vettel the undercut? It's got to be infuriating at this point as Charles has clearly been performing better.

It's always rough watching a race where you really know that overtaking is just not possible among the top cars. This was a strategy race and Sebastian is the only guy who got the best strategy (the undercut). Max benefited as well but what a poor showing by the Mercedes pit-wall. I really thought H...

Judging from Leclerc's self appraisal his lap was on the ragged edge, as was Hamilton's, with him claiming he might have hit the wall. Re: Vettel and his Ferrari drive

2008 is something Vettel hasn't done, true -- winning in a car that was clearly second best. However, I think you have to balance that with the fact that Hamilton was competing against a second tier driver. Vettel may have had a car advantage, but he won all of his titles with the top drivers of hi...

I don’t think that’s accurate. If anything they are pretty equal but Leclerc it seems will learn more quickly to think better of situations rather than act out of arrogance and an idgaf attitude. He’s shown he’s more mature in his entire approach to everything. That will allow him to win more consi...

I go with the one with the biggest talent and that's Max Verstappen , he will first give Red Bull and Honda fair chance to provide him with a WDC capable car, this is basically only the alliance's first year. Vettel had that in 2012. The Red Bull was no more the clear best car that year than the Mercedes was in 2017.
I'd say that's fair but I'd say that, for Hamilton, you also have to include 2008.

This, for me, is the most baffling thing about F1. There are issues/weaknesses within F1. They also have far more mechanical grip with the wider tires. Careful with that one the grip comes from the compound not the width, its just a wider tyre means you can run a softer compound and it doesn't wear out so fast. One has to ask. Is Vettel Raikkonen 2.0? The latter half of their careers really told a different story making you re-assess their earlier career. Is Vettel just an average driver? I'm with the "all depends on who the replacement might be" brigade. The way I'd see it is that you have the ultimate base line in Hamilton. If you're KO assuming that he can get the best out of the car every race, the most you can hope for your other driver is 1) they follow him home and don't let ...

Slip-steaming is important in so much motorsport so I doubt it will go away very much with new regs. The new regs are not really designed to stop slip-streaming but to aid following in corners. I'm sure slip-streaming will still be fairly important as it was in the pre-wing 60's. I agree. My unders...

The underlying problem is that the officiating is heavily influenced by fan and media reaction, which in turn is heavily influenced by WHO is getting the penalty and not WHY they are getting it.
