Re: Ferrari 2014 - Worst season for the scuderia since 1980?

I think it's pretty clear they have the fourth, possibly even fifth best car on the grid now that McLaren are starting to perform a little better. Alonso is shooting above the car - he's driving well, keeping out of trouble, and has had no major issues. His points haul has been helped a lot by Massa...

Re: The Official Kimi Räikkonen thread

This is where having a few more in season tests would probably do the world of good. We know Kimi is a fast, and usually consistent driver - anyone who says otherwise is ignoring years of solid evidence. If someone of his calibre is having such troubles, how on earth do we expect the younger generat...

Can Alonso be the reason why Ferrari is in the crappers? Will Ferrari be in the same position today if Schu was still driving? I wouldn't be surprised if not having a pointy driver in the team for the last few years has meant some finer points of car development are being lost.

Re: Williams did their best to lose the race today

I disagree 3rd and 4th was the best result for them. Valtteri was only 8 seconds behind at the checkered flag - considering he likely turned the engine down etc near the end, that's close enough for him to have had a good chance to keep at least one Merc behind him, especially knowing that the mercs...

Re: The Official Kimi Räikkonen thread

You have to remember he was very equal with Massa and was also for one lap pace often slower than Grosjean. Yet Alonso crushed both of these drivers and with time we are cementing that Massa was the same driver after his accident that nearly won the World Championship. I don't think it's to do with...

Re: Was it a mistake for Ferrari to sign Kimi ?

Even after his performances vs. Fernando, I still rate Kimi highly. The only thing that's really gone backwards in my opinion of him is his ability to wrangle a bad car. Let's look at history: Sauber: Kimi impressed despite finishing behind Heidfeld (who was no slouch at the time) McLaren: Kimi lost...

Re: Was it a mistake for Ferrari to sign Kimi ?

Realistically, they had no better options. Hulk has struggled this year against Perez to an extent, and while has flashes of brilliance, he isn't nearly the racer that Kimi is. In almost every race this year Kimi would have finished either one position in front, or one position behind Fernando, were...

Re: The Official Kimi Räikkonen thread

Kimi's normal driving style minimises sideways loading on the car, which also corresponds to wear on the tyres, so theoretically he should be light on tyres. But, it does need a car that can work with the quick rotation i.e. a pointy front end and a planted rear. The fact that he's suffering from hi...

Hmm. It's a tough one.

I think Kimi and Seb would be having similar issues with the Red Bull, and I think Seb would probably have a slight edge. I'd be surprised if there was much in it though.

As someone else said above, the WDC standings don't really reflect how close Kimi is to Alonso.

Kimi showed everything he had at the beginning of the race and paid it when his tyres were gone about lap 20, RIC and ALO saved tyres and were closing the gap rapidly then. SC saved Kimi in this moment, otherwise 2-3 laps later both would have been right behind Kimi and would have been able to stay...

I've been following F1 since about 2000, and I can't remember a season yet that's had such a dominant team. Schumacher's Ferraris weren't >1sec/lap faster than the rest of the pack consistently across multiple races, neither was the Brawn, or any of Vettel's Bulls. To top it off, the gap looked like...

I think Kimi had the pace over Fernando on the medium tyres, especially as the car got lighter, but Kimi seemed slightly slower than Fernando on the hard tyres (albeit not much - maybe 1-2 tenths - certainly not enough for an easy pass). That may be part of the reason for the long middle stint on me...

I still believe Ferrari have the best pairing, but Kimi isn't up to par right now. Same with Red Bull & SV. Mercedes are going well, but they haven't been outperforming the car. Would he let someone from another team go past? If not, then it's pretty unfair to ask him to let his teammate past. If the strategy relies on passing other cars, then those other cars should damn well need to be passed.

I think what's happening to Vettel is the same thing that's happening to Kimi, especially when compared to both Ricciardo and Alonso. I find it odd that the regulations are so tightly defined. Why not just say - you have 100KG of fuel for the race, and 6xxKG for the car minus driver, and say 80KG for driver + seat, and leave it up to the teams/engine manufacturers to find the best ways to get the cars around the track.
