Another Maserati - 4CLT (quite the same car as prewar 4CL) - Villoresi winning the first British GP at Silverstone in 1948... Edit: What was the thinking behind those tall intake boxes on the Ligier and Embassy? It was not due to any bright "thinking" but, just like nowadays, bright "regulation". The Ligier and its "Smurf" intake was designed by the aerodynamicist who designed the Matra 640... Here's the start of the 1975...

ALFA was born in 1909 when Italians bought a French car factory set in Milan (Darracq)... Mr Romeo, an ingineer, came in just the next year, and they started racing as soon as 1911 (at the Targa Florio).
