It does show that a more developed society will be more likely to have less fatalities on the roads. Whether this is due to it's citizens being more law abiding, better testing with a harder pass grade, better policing to enforce the laws or something entirely different is another debate. The UFO thread got me thinking about proposed manned missions to Mars. There are at least two proposals out there one of which features a one-way trip. Basically if you are selected the idea is to fly you to Mars where you colonise the planet. There is no planned return trip. Do you sign up?
