At present I'd go with Max.
He's a proven race winner who has the most out and out speed on the grid, with the possible exception of Lewis.
LeClerc has potential but all i can really be sure of is that he's better than Ericsson

Re: 2018 French Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Interesting Qualifying. When you look at the lap time differences and the length of lap, for both here and Spain, it looks like the Mercedes advantage is pretty similar across both tracks. Kind of points to it being a tyre specific advantage and that the development of the 2 cars in the meantime has...

This thread is almost pointless because most of the vocal people in here are completely biased. This year Ferrari have the slight edge. It's plain to see. That doesn't mean their edge will endure throughout the season but, as of now, they are ahead. I don't know how you can watch the race weekends ...

I am wondering about pit strategy with all of the front runners. Everyone but Fernando Alonso (on Ultras) is on the Hypersofts. Ferrari under scrutiny again.
http://www.planetf1.com/news/ferrari-facing-fresh-protest-in-monaco/ The SF71H has come under a lot of scrutiny already this season as Ferrari continue to explore the limits of how the 2018 regulations can be interpreted. Went with the top 3. Could have gone Leclerc but he did get caught sleeping by Alonso and lost a hard earned place.

He dropped way back then started sticking in new track records?

The idea that Alonso can drag a 'bad' car into a good position appears to be supported by those behind the scenes, going on this article from the BBC concerning his effort in Baku after his car had been hit on the first lap. The Alonso hype machine is strong with that one. A significant amount of d...

The problem with that is we have no benchmark at all to judge Vandoorne as an F1 driver. Well, we have one, which is Alonso - kind of two, if you include his one-off in Bahrain alongside Button. But benchmarks aside, I dispute your statement that it's just as likely for Vandoorne to be totally usel...

Whenever you try to judge driver performance all you are really doing is comparing them to their team mate. That's why when you do get a direct comparison it's always more useful. I'm not comparing him to Vandoorne. Even assuming Alonso has equal speed to those around him you couldn't place the Mcl...

A very small data set. Alonso has been in F1 for 16 seasons. Indeed. For a comparison purpose though it's surely better to use 1 year as direct competitors within a team, over 15 with different equipment? Not if you want to draw a balanced conclusion. Is it best to judge Vettel solely by 2014 or do...

As i recall the ‘Verstappen rule’ was removed from the rulebook. Yep and today we see why it needs to be in. When cars are doing 340kph moving twice that close to the corner is incredibly dangerous. That said I think this covered by the moving twice rule anyway which as far as I'm aware is still in...

I would say 90% Ricciardo. Max picked his line, and was straight when shifting back. He braked after moving. His steering movements were minor. Dan was frustated because he came out behind Max, even though his pitstop was faster. He was beaten in the in- or outlap. Dan was never gonna make that cor...

BOTH HAVE BEEN REPRIMANDED!!! My take is that they are both to blame. Yes Max moved twice but I also thing Daniel braked far to late. Now maths isn't my strong point, but if Vettel was 23.6 seconds ahead of Hamilton before he pitted and came out 7.9s ahead of him, that means he lost a net 15.7s in the pits. Call it 16s. And he lost 16.5s to Bottas. So as Bottas had comfortably more than that over Lewis, that meant he would have c...
