Re: Protesters in Bahrain throwing petrol bombs at F1 Billlb

She's already refused to acknowledge that this is happening. So its probably best to leave her with her rose tinted glasses and hope that nothing terrible happens over the weekend. She'll look a right tit if it does. that's a bit harsh. Rather than "refusing to acknowledge that this is happeni...

Re: Mercedes in Bahrain

China is a front limited circuit which was a big factor in Mercedes keeping their rear tyres in nick (plus the low temperatures and their improved setup, the two factors most commentators have been mentioning). Note that Melbourne and Malaysia are both rear limited tracks. Does anyone know if Bahra...

Re: Protesters in Bahrain throwing petrol bombs at F1 Billlb

I wonder if the Bahraini's thought similarly about the British GP when they saw spontaneous fires sprouting up across London last summer? Why would they? Those spontaneous fires weren't going on for over a year and the police were not emptying bullet cartridges into the crowd. What? Do you actually...

But Pironi was rarely ahead of Prost both in qualy and in races, as far as I remember. Usually it was Prost who was ahead, than his engine or injection blows (occasionally spins off), and Pironi get's the spoils. Re: 3 stops over 2, how much better does it need to be?

It's less than what it seems. If having fresher tyres throughout the duration of the race means that on average, you're 1 sec a lap faster, that's 50 secs over a 50 lap race, enough to do 2 extra pitstops. Only downside for the 3 stoppers is traffic, as demonstrated in the race yesterday. 3 stop is...

Re: 1982 all over again?

In 1982 Renault had the best car, but it suffered miserable reliability. The field was split between turbo cars and normally aspirated cars, of which Williams and McLaren were the best. Prost was mostly unbeatable , Arnoux was there and Ferrari's followed with somewhat better reliability, and than ...

Why then assume that the protestors are the good guys and the king is the bad guy? I can't make a qualified judgement about the protestors, but if you are a democrat, any absolute monarch is a bad guy. Is he an absolute monarch? Are the majority of Bahrainis democrat? How many protestors are there?...

Re: Kimi dropping 10+ spots in a little over a lap

His tires were already f*cked when he was the leader of the train. He was able to hold his position for a reasonable number of laps. Out of turn 4 he had no grip (he was even using 3rd gear to get traction) which allowed Vettel to get ahead for turn 5. When Vettel cut in front of Kimi, Kimi lost fr...

It is possible they converted a 3 stopper into 2 stopper - though that doesn't explain everything either. Prior to his pit stop around lap 28, he was putting in decent laps (i think .5 sec slower than Grosjean who was 5 secs behind him and on par with most others). There was no way he was going to ...

Re: 1982 all over again?

I would love it to be like 82. However with reliability as it is now I think drivers will start to pull away. With any luck we could have another 2010 though. In 1982 the winning driver, Keke Rosberg, won only 1 Grand Prix the whole year. He averaged only 2.75 points per race over the season, equiv...

Re: 3 stops over 2, how much better does it need to be?

it's a combination of things and as others have mentioned depends entirely on the track in question. The time to pit, including entry and exit to the pit lane, is the benchmark figure as that is what you will lose by coming in for an extra set of tyres. Then you have to factor in the ease of overtak...
