Re: Conjecture on introduction of number 1 driver at Mercede

Perhaps with this discussion, those who completely dismiss the possibility can see a reason why Red Bull may have wanted to keep their drivers apart a little these last few years. Giving the drivers equal machinery is not guaranteed to deliver the most points – especially when the gap to your compet...

Re: If every driver had the same car how would the grid line

I know it’s to be expected but somehow still interesting how this seasons results seem to have swayed some people’s opinions already. Three races in maybe, but two wet qualifying sessions, and one dry – which was basically three straights. Add to that reliability issues which have hindered a few. I’...

Re: WDC 2014, Rosberg or Hamilton

Nico out qualified Lewis by 0.4 second in Bahrain last year. The largest margin he had all year in normal circumstances. In the race Nico had terrible tyre issues (worst he had all season) all fell back like a stone so not really representative pace there. Lewis out qualified Nico by 0.4 in China t...

Re: 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix Race Thread

Wow...what a race...safety car really mixed things up at the end there! I noticed that quite a few of the perceived stronger drivers had weaker weekends...at least once it counted, after all, there are no points for practice. Rosberg, Perez, Ricciardo, Raikonnen most notably all looked strong compar...

Re: Driver(s) of the Day - Malaysian Grand Prix

Hamilton for me….I understand how some can see this as a comfortable victory, therefore not meriting DotD, but given the Mercedes Status as favourite, and the cylinder failure in Melbourne there would have been significant pressure on Lewis to put in a good performance today. He responded by not put...

Re: What Will Red Bull Do?

There will be the argument that running to the fuel flow limits as specified by the FIA sensor for the next two races could weaken their argument for going against it in the first race. Tough call for RBR, but you’d have to guess they’ll fall in line.

Re: Could we see a similar season to 2009?

Assuming Mercedes have the advantage, the big difference between 2009 and 2014 is budget…it wasn’t much of a surprise that Brawn got reeled in and overtaken. Mercedes have been pushing for that top spot for a year or two now…I’m sure they’d get reeled in, but overtaken? Guess we’ll have to wait and ...

Re: 2008 reboot. Hamilton vs Massa for the title...

Have I missed something? Like the start of the season? We are already dividing up the WDC and WCC trophies??? Yup, that's what we're seeing. Endless speculation. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. This is a discussion forum…people discuss, speculate. If we only discussed what is known then ...

Re: The beginnings of the duo

This is not my personal view, but you could argue that if the Ferrari really are a second or two of the Mercedes powered teams then the only thing each driver has to gain this season is to beat their team mate. That said, they are professionals and even if they know they are behind now, I am sure th...

Re: Question re: Fuel limit and Consumption

I guess I was asking, what appears to have been answered in ClubF1's quote - "From a technical point of view, the cars have a peak fuel flow rate limit of 100kg/h - this is a flow rate, meaning they can't use more than 27.8grams per second." I take that to be a physical max restriction (no...

Re: Question re: Fuel limit and Consumption

When they say fuel flow, are they not describing a rate, hence whether you define that rate in kg/hr or g/sec it is exactly the same thing. I always assumed the reason for defining it in kg/hr was for ease of comparison with the average race fuel consumption - say Bahrain takes 1hr 40 mins to finish...

Re: What should Vettel do?

To be fair a lot of Vettel’s critics have said they wouldn’t rate him one of the greats until he performs in a weaker car….maybe he’ll have that opportunity without leaving Red Bull.

Re: In Place of Double Points

This is a subject that has been discussed quite a bit already, most recently, this thread - http://forum.planet-f1.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9487&start=0 I never replied at the time but all the double points discussions did make me wonder if there was any way they would go down the lines of a ...

Re: Kers issues....

With all the talk on fuel consumption and performance, how well the teams harness the ERS could ultimately dictate how much they can push for race duration – could be massive, failure or not. Many things could define this season – going to be really to interesting to find out which do.

Re: 2014 Jerez Winter Testing thread..

Don’t Red Bull also have some key personnel who have left or are on the way out. They're obviously professionals so I’m not suggesting anything underhand, but they do have a lot less incentive to put in the hard graft and identify all those minor issues…that can’t be easy to manage! Only a fool woul...

Re: First 2014 Car Photos - Post them here.

With regards the Caterham is it quite as simple as maximizing the air-flow in that area. Surely the trade-off with uplift to ensure sufficient down force at the front of the car and make sure it handles reasonably is just as important? Maybe someone with a bit more knowledge of Aerodynamics can offe...

Re: Double points for season finale from next year

Really, is this not enough to conclude that the new system just favors those who do well in the last race, regardless of their consistency?. Yeah, of course I agree that the rule favours drivers/teams that do well in the final race, but if you are just looking at that final result, regardless of wh...

Re: Double points for season finale from next year

As with most who have posted I don’t think this is a great idea, but that’s more based on the fact it seems unfair to award double points at a track that could favour certain teams and maybe to a lesser extent drivers. That said, this is known at the start of the season so I guess teams can factor t...
