Re: 2019 Pre-Season Testing Thread (Updated with Test 1 Line

Looks like there is a mistake in that post for c2 to c3. Article I read says pirrelli will have a better picture at the end of test 2 but suggest the following:
C1 to C2 - 0.8-1s
C2 to C3 - 0.7
C3 to C4 - 0.6
C4 to C5 - 0.6

Re: 2019 Pre-Season Testing Thread (Updated with Test 1 Line

With major changes to the aero concepts this year, largely as a result of those new front wings you’d have to expect a big development race and all the teams developing quickly over the start of season even the team that hits the ground running and has the fastest package in the first few races. So ...

Re: 2019 Pre-Season Testing Thread (Updated with Test 1 Line

I don't get how these predictions are being made, tbh. Mercedes are right near the bottom of the timings and you'd have to say that's highly unlikely to be the case. It's much more probable that they're focusing on reliability rather than speed at this stage of testing. I don't get how rankings are...

Re: Vettel's 4 Championships

... Vettel is not particularly good in the wet... I'll play devil's advocate here and point out that his first wins, for both Torro Rosso and for Red Bull, were in wet conditions. I actually think that he is a pretty good wet weather driver. He does seem to have lost that ability since coming to Fe...

Re: Eddie Irvine's scathing assesment of Formula One today

With regards to your first paragraph; no it's not conjecture at all. It's fact. The emergence of various young driver support programs in the 90s and 00s is fact. That they basically did not exist prior to that is also fact. That the size of the talent pool grew with he availability of more sponsor...

Re: Vettel's 4 Championships

For me Vettel is clearly right up there at the top of his generation, and there really isn't much between him and the likes of Alonso/Hamilton. These are the top drivers in the sport and when people criticize they are nit-picking because the standard at the top is so competitive currently. There are...

Re: FIA hints at grid penalty alternatives

So Red Bull have already come out and said that they are likely to use 5 engines over the next season. Pretty good reason right there why the penalty has to be tied to the team, be it a grid penalty or points. Point penalty wouldn't go down well though when a team wins the final race but loses the t...

Re: FIA hints at grid penalty alternatives

The bigger point is that teams have to make a trade off between performance and reliability. It's not all down to the manufacturer, and it's not likely a coincidence red Bull is much quicker but less reliable than Renault. If you limit engine components then you have to penalize the teams when they ...

Re: FIA hints at grid penalty alternatives

As for installation solution, how do they ensure the customers achieve the same levels of cooling etc. Which would be dependent on the efficiency of the air intakes and overall packaging and why would the manufacturers help with that? And that's just one consideration.

Re: FIA hints at grid penalty alternatives

Still think there should be a fixed price for a season of engines, with supply to all teams matched. I.e. they can't force the customers to make engines last for extra races. If an engine goes pop for any reason the manufacturer takes the hit So the teams run the engines at 11 and let the manufactu...

I think the only workable alternative would be ballast penalties in qualifying which probably wouldn't be as draconian as the penalties we see now? They could well be a lot worse. Where are you going to fix the ballast? Introduding such a penalty would require the teams to foresee a penalty weight ...

I expect the new rules to help Redbull actually. If you look at the redbull car it is a simpler design than the merc or Ferrari. Feel like in this instance the result shows who was in the wrong, hence no action from the stewards. Verstappen was in control and at a good speed for his line, leaving a cars width. Vettel was on the inside, off the racing line and no doubt on the edge of the grip for the tyres, so as he understeer...

Is it really a fair comparison given Hamilton probably developed a lot too being in such an intense battle with his teammate for so long?
