Apparently Mercedes tried to warn the FIA about the risks involved with the safety car lights going off so late, but they just shrugged it off and said it's better for the show this way. https://www.motorsport-total.com/formel-1/news/re-start-chaos-mercedes-war-das-problem-vor-dem-rennen-bewusst-200...

Re: Standing Re-starts

I don't really follow the american racing series, but I've understood that over there they don't give any advance notice of when the racing resumes (green flag) after a caution period (yellow flag). The drivers are just suddenly notified by radio and flags and that's it. I wonder if that could work ...

Interesting conversations about restarts. First we seem to have a lot of F1 drivers on this forum. First your sitting in the fastest accelerating formula car on the planet. Two your siting in a car where your field of visions is blocked by the wing of the car in front of you. While the leader at th...

I like how it is now. We get: VSC - Racing resumed after track is clear. Relative positions on track kept somewhat intact SC - Racing resumed once safety car comes in. Field bunched up, rolling start Red flag - Racing postponed and resumed after a standing start. Field bunched up. We get a nice vari...

It seems it was Russell that caused restart mayhem, he was P11 and left a huge gap to p10. Accelerated into it, which others behind followed and then Russell slowed. On the one hand it would be good to have Perez on the grid as he's a quite handy driver, but on the other hand he's had a fair shot at it without setting the world alight so his departure would also open a door for new drivers.

Re: When were Ferrari this bad?

IIRC, I remember Ferraris being LAPPED by the dominant Williams at several races, 1990-1992. That's pretty bad compared with today. Frankly, aside from the early years (50s-60s), I can't recall Ferrari as dominating ANY period other than the Schumacher era. Attack... They've been lapped in Hungary ...

The car's entire philosophy is probably designed around that powerful (and arguably illegal) engine without which it's nowhere. They've probably written off this season before it started and are entirely focused on next year's rule changes.

Re: The end of Party Mode

I highly doubt Merc's party mode is 0.6s better than, say, Honda's party mode. I think the best indication is looking at the differences between Q2 and Q3 times. In Silverstone, the best Mercedes improved by ~0.25 more than the best Red Bull did. 70th Anniversary GP: ~0.00 Spanish GP: ~0.2 (This is...

I think talking about race bans is a serious overreaction but a simple shrug is probably too lenient. They should at least be fined or given a grid drop to send a message that this isn't ok. Especially as Leclerc didn't pit at the first possible opportunity.
