Re: 2013 firsts?
I don't think Chilton's feat had ever been achieved either, until 2013. You mean, the most impressive "0" points achievement in one season in the history of F1? All 19 races crossing the finish line, and all with null points. That must be unprecedented. It granted him with the last, the 23th place ...

Re: Why doesn't Hulk have backing?
I agree that perhaps Hulk isnt as good as some think, but I cant think of any logical explanation which someone could use to put Sutil above him. I'm not sure Sutil carries the kind of money that others do or something that can really make a dent on a team? It really is about markets though. A Mexi...

Re: Changes in your esteem of drivers
Impressive for me this season: Vettel: It was without doubt he was a great driver anyway, he seems to have set about eradicating what were his weaknesses. Rosberg: Showed that he can compete with the best this year. Most likely an issue of being underrated due to the car in the past. Grosjean: Was a...

All well and good for European audiences, but the rest of the world need to get up at some godforsaken hour to watch. Those on the other side of Australia probably won't be able to watch the race as they'll need to be going to (or be at) work at the time the race starts. Shame, really. I've never s...

Re: Two Mandatory Pitstops for 2014
without wanting to go into the whole tyre debate again, IMO it's not so much the durability of the tyres that has been the issue, but their fragility under stress. Who can forget Mansell's epic charge at Silverstone in 1987 where he broke the lap record 11 times over 28 laps and eliminated a 29 sec...

Actually going to work for McClaren wouldn't be a bad deal for Ross. Since their Maranello consultant group fell on hard times they have been on the back foot. Nice Honda engine and a spy at Red Bull and they are right back in the hunt. Then Ross becomes the reason for the resurgence, Mercedes cont...

Ok so we've had the same champion for the last 4 years (not knocking him, any way you look at it he's either very good or everyone else is very very bad) and had by and large the same drivers chasing him in vain. Coupled with that we have tyres that are more and more fragile to the extent where the...

WDC standings if everyone was in a Marussia might be a better question. I don't think it would make much difference which car, one has to assume drivers are/have time to become/ familiar with the car. Maybe I just want to see them drive something more difficult. I thought it was common knowledge what Red Bull have? The fantastic exhaust system which pushes the tyres in to the ground (layman's) when Vettel slams on the gas which stops the 'slide' that other drivers such as Alonso suffer when they attempt the same thing. Other teams have tried to replicate it...

Perez & Hulk would be a great lineup and one that could potentially be a WCC winning lineup if in a faster car (I know, you could apply this to anyone but I'm hoping you get the point). The engines can only be so powerful and we're not going to push far beyond our current top speed. Why not 'downgrade' the engines and force them to get more from less? Despite the issues Red Bull was having with the initial spec tires Vettel was still leading the WDC. There's probably an agreement to let Webber win his final GP in Brazil. That would mean an end to Vettel's winning streak and the next time he would have a chance to win again might be in Melbourne 2014. If Red Bull is still dominant/top team. And that's one big if. I'm sure I heard a lot of talk from them around the exhaust being theoretically an improvement but in practice it was actually hindering them.

I think part of the thing about Button is he just doesn't seem a very fast driver but seems to get results. Hard to explain. The problem is that his incredible raw speed was put down to him rather than the car. The Sauber that year is one of the most underrated cars of all time. Look at Perez's qualifying record. Perez may not of had the best year, but I don't think McLaren are dumping him on his performances alone. He was only a stop gap solution, and there is no room for him long term. Perez is a young, talented driver. Would be sad to see him go. Is he WDC material? Maybe not yet, but he's certainly not a bad driver. I wouldn't say this removes all credibility, it happens in every sport.
It tends to be quite rare that anything dramatically changes. Lotus were on course for 4th prior to this move and seem to have now cemented it.

Yep. I get bored with it too. Saving tyres, saving fuel.
