Re: Forum verdict on the Hamilton/Verstappen collision

This is incorrect though, the FIA made it clear that they do not take into account the consequences, only the act itself to decide who's responsible for the incident. That's the correct way to assess a penalty, IMO. Too bad I don't believe them. I think they take into account not only the result, b...

Re: Forum verdict on the Hamilton/Verstappen collision

Honestly, I think the pair of them knew what they were doing. This has been coming for a few races at least, and even moreso after the sprint race. Lewis has learnt that discretion is the better part of valour, and has been getting out of the way more often than not when invited to crash by Max's de...

Re: 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Race Thread

The Pirelli inquest needs to be fast, if it was a pure tyre failure then they will all want to pit again. Depends if it was caused by hitting something on track that no tyre would survive. Indeed, hence the need for the inquest. The data and cameras alone will show if it was a debris strike. I was ...

Re: Uncharacteristic errors from Hamilton and Verstappen

As Alienturnedhuman helpfully pointed out (which is the same argument you're making), conditional probability can indicate risk better. The occurrence of red flags is an independent event though in itself, and even if the risk were higher it still is an edge case. You are arguing gamblers fallacy, ...

Of course it is relevant - we are discussing planning for edge cases, and if multiple red flags in the final 10 mins of qualy is an edge case then it is completely relevant to my argument.
Is it still an edge case given what had occured the in the previous 2 sessions? I think not.

Re: Uncharacteristic errors from Hamilton and Verstappen

I agree that there is a higher risk, but your analogy doesn't make sense - impending rain is something you can predict these days with a high level of accuracy, while double yellows and reds are entirely unpredictable. When was the last time we saw 2 red flags in the final 10 mins of qualifying? Wh...

Re: Uncharacteristic errors from Hamilton and Verstappen

I'm gonna say it. Verstappen consistently hasn't been delivering on Saturday. A return of 1/6 poles in a car that was clearly capable of pole at every circuit is a very poor return for the driver some consider the best over one lap. He's been burgled by Leclerc twice and Hamilton once. A bit too ea...

In another life he would probably have been a Prime Minister, but you cannot choose your family and he carried that baggage with him for a long time. I think this is another area where Indy has it right, you get grid penalties for bringing out the red flag. Don't think he did that on purpose though, a lot easier to just find a place to rip your front wing off without risking damaging the gearbox than doing that. If the gearbox is knackered then i...

I would say obviously Verstappen has more to prove, but it is illuminating to see Hamilton's insecurity and pompousness with his comments on this. “I think perhaps, as you know, he feels perhaps he has a lot to prove. Plumped for Hamilton, Verstappen and Leclerc. Strategy mastery helped Lewis on his way but he was insanely fast in clear air to get the job done. This track is really not needed. Drivers were finding it hard to even pass with DRS. And what benefit did turn 10 deliver? Max should've pitted for the 2nd time when Lewis pitted. RB lost the race there. He does seem to struggle with staying on the track doesn't he. Not really strange, Perez is legendarily soft on his tyres as demonstrated in this very race. What I meant is when on mediums, he was lapping as fast as the top 3, even when the tyres were quite old. When he came on softs, he was slower. Somehow, RB as a car didn't like the tarmac of this track whe...

I imagine the main implications are going to be on suspension design, the sidewall does a lot of the dampening over bumps and stuff right now, wouldn't want to be going over sausage kerbs with those tyres and rock hard suspension.
