Re: Change One Retirement in a Historic Race
Suzuka 1998. While technically not a retirement, but had Trulli not stalled on the grid, it wouldn't have triggered the subsequent formation lap where Schumacher then stalled from pole. To this day I feel we were robbed of a great showdown race. While it wasn't quite winner-take-all as Hakkinen coul...

Re: Fernando300
why is it selfish? I get the arrogance, although to be fair he was answering a question put to him, so one could argue he was merely being candid. But how is it selfish? Throughout his career, regardless of team, Alonso has never offered an ounce of respect for his teammates. Never. He has always c...

Re: Should Bottas be getting nervous?
His seat should be safe until 2021 if we look at the pattern of Hamilton's ex-teammates:
Alonso 1 year
Kovalainen 2 years
Button 3 years
Rosberg 4 years
Alonso 1 year
Kovalainen 2 years
Button 3 years
Rosberg 4 years

It's karma for Perez. I don't have any sympathy for him. I thought so too. If Perez hadn't been so selfish in Canada, Ocon might have shown him the respect to not close him off completely at the next earliest opportunity. I anticipated there would be repercussions from that event, just didn't expec...

Re: Japanese drivers
Would Aguri Suzuki and Ukyo Katayama change your ideas about Japanese drivers? I really enjoyed having them in the races, and was quite impressed with how Katayama got the Tyrrells high up the grid on occasion. I felt he deserved a good seat in a frontline team. He also didn't seem too wild, or muc...

Re: Force India announce new livery
Their silver sharkfin masked itself quite well from the pre-season test photos, I always had to look hard to notice it. Kind of wish they kept that on this livery.

I've always found it ironic that the BAR team came into the sport in 1999 boasting about how it was going win its first race (and perhaps the title, can't quite remember), but scored zero points all season. A decade later, effectively the same team under a new guise, actually achieved those goals.

Re: Sutil possible in Haas market.
Slightly off topic, but who's the attractive woman the cameras always pan to in the garage, is that his wife or agent or team member? She's been there since his Force India days, but lately she's been sporting the team attire. She's the reason I don't mind seeing Sutil still in F1.

Singapore 2010 maybe? I remember rooting for Vettel that day (night?!), but he seemed to be stuck to Alonso's gearbox from start to finish, including pitting on the same lap.

Re: Schumy's sportsmanship moments
One race that hardly ever gets brought up on this subject is the 2002 Monza race. I had a feeling while watching the race at the time that he subtly gave this race to Rubens. MS was on a 1-stop and RB on a 2. Throughout the race it looked like MS was cruising and could have gone faster but didn't, a...

Re: Thought Experiment
A good solution could be what they've done at the new Silverstone layout, having the pitlane bypass/shortcut a section of the circuit, minimizing the time loss for a pitstop but still keeping the safety of a pitlane speed limit. Unfortunately this won't work at a place like Monza where that section ...

Re: Races where the leader has gone off the track but still
Was Schumacher leading when he went off in Hungary '98? Think so. He lost 5 seconds to Hakkinen but I can't remember if DC was still in the lead at the time? Schumacher was already leading, and was trying to build the gap for his extra stop when he went off. The off track excursion did not end up c...

Absolutely. If they were willing to give him up for one higher slot on the grid for the other car, they sure as hell will do it to win a WDC.

Even if Mark ignored this order, I wouldn't put it beyond Helmut to order one of the Toro Rosso guys to slow down, wait for Mark to come around, and punt him out.

Who the heck is this John Newtown that has qualified in P6? The infamous John Newhouse, or D. Williams on N64's F1 World Grand Prix, Williams Numberone on F1 '97, was none other than Jacques Villeneuve who wouldn't allow his name or likeness be used in computer games for a few years. Game designers...

Re: is there such a thing as a F1 managment game ?
The most entertaining F1-based game that I have ever played: http://cdn2.spong.com/pack/g/r/grandprixw19207/_-Grand-Prix-World-PC-_.jpg It's based on the 1998 season. However, an online community has created updates up to and including the 2010 season. The original game only ran on Windows 98 but p...

If he stayed with McLaren, there was a good chance he could have ended up with car #5 next year, continuing the pattern starting from 2009.

Didn't they shoot some chemicals into the sky one year when there was rain in the forecast, to ensure that it wouldn't rain during the race?

Aside from the faults which have already been pointed out, he didn't really have much luck. Only finished 6 races in 2001 and a lot of that wasn't his fault. Engine failure when he could have won at Indy, taken out by Jos when he should have won in Brazil. He got screwed over royally by the steward...

Re: Why F1 TV missing so much race action
I get angry when they feel the need to show like 5 different replays of the start (albeit from various onboards), always around lap 3 when DRS has just been enabled, and you inevitably end up missing some of the early overtakes. During the Monza race, we missed Vettel's pass on Schumacher when it wa...

Whenever I think of him I think of this. http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01451/Martin_Brundle_1451284c.jpg It says a lot though that after this he went running back to pits to get the spare car for the restart. Interesting aside: this was caused by Coulthard fishtailing his car into Bru...
