Re: The Provisional F1 Race Calendar for 2016!
I'd definitely take Malaysia over Abu Dhabi as the season finale. We need a track that could cause absolute mayhem, and let's face it, Abu Dhabi only has a small wall in sector 3 to provide any chaos. Malaysia has got really unpredictable weather and could be great for suspense with a red flagged s...

Utterly stupendous performance at Monza in an incredible car! Fastest in FP1, FP2, FP3, Q1, Q2, Q3, race, fastest race lap and every lap led! Hamilton hasn't smashed a weekend like that since Malaysia 2014. The last time a driver finished first in ALL sessions during the weekend was Michael Schumac...

Re: Rosberg's ability (or lack of) on Race Day
It was clear today and lewis even said he had additional pace if he needed it. What I dont get was that he wasn't defending a title he was going out to win it. Well it share looked like a defensive race today. He was in the lead of the race - why push and win by a larger margin when you don't need ...

Re: Article - Why Hamilton wasn't going to win the title
What changed? To think of it, the whole title came down to one faulty ERS unit. If that faulty unit had been on Hamilton's car, he would've been the one to drop out of points and Rosberg would've been the champion. Who knows at which point of the production chain something changed that led to a mec...

Re: Is Lewis Hamilton the only driver to have won a race...
Lewis hasn't maintained this record by pure 'luck'. He knows what a race winning car should do. He introduced himself to Ron Dennis and he jumped ship to Mercedes at just the right time. He has made his own luck. Vettel also made his own luck. Although winning in a Toro Rosso required the good fort...

Re: Red Bulls Could Possibly Have Won On Pace
Ok, I agree Hamilton had the win in the bag but I think both Red Bulls were generally quicker than Rosberg. When Vettel put on his second set of inters, he dipped down into the 151s. Rosberg never did that all race. He was losing time to the Bulls for most of the race. If Vettel hadn't had that off...

Re: Red Bulls Could Possibly Have Won On Pace
Had Bianchi not had his horrible accident I think the race could have been very different. Ricciardo was pulling time out of the Mercs and the Mercs had eaten their tyres much faster in previous stints compared to the Bulls (especially Ricciardo). Despite their new tyre pace being seemingly better ...

In the heavy rain near the end of the race, after everyone had their 2nd stop for inters, Lewis was still slamming in 1:52s when both Red Bulls could only manage 1:53s and Rosberg 1:54s. The Red bull could have caught Rosberg, but Hamilton? No

Re: Why a 1.6L turbo??
The turbo in an F1 cat is far more revolutionary than the twin turbo concept in your MINI. It is connected to a MGU, which can spin up the turbo independently of engine speed. It can dekiver the exact amount of air the engine needs at any point in time and then harvest any excess energy where the e...

Re: Are F1 gear-changes all manually called by the driver?
The ECU ==> Steering LCD info won't need the car to have any change. All data are made of 1 and 0 anyways. The data has always been accessible by the ECU. It's just whether or not the team wants to show it. If they want to show it, they can just change the LCD firmware, without changing any physical...

Re: Why a 1.6L turbo??
I remember watching a documentary about the new LeMans prototype, and the engineer said "sound is just wasted energy". It's the same with the current F1 car. That's why it's so quiet since they are more efficient. Even if you make a V8 engine as efficient as the current V6 Turbo, then it will just s...

Don't forget that some cars already suffered with disk problems, and they have only one chance to change the gear set. I have little doubt they could pinch an extra 20mph, but what would be the trade off? Extra fuel? another tyre stop? unused gears in other venues? If this had been like 2004, low f...

These are the safety car rules. http://www.formula1.com/inside_f1/rules_and_regulations/sporting_regulations/8687/fia.html There may be some other agreement that Nico was referring to. One query I do have... did Lewis up his pace a little after being asked not to hold up Nico? Further to that, if so might it have compromised the life of his own tyres and the possible...

Re: LH/ Nico Strat call
To me it was obvious Lewis was going to run a one stopper. It could have easily been done. He had done 25 laps on the medium tire with heavy fuel load. The hard tire would have easily done 27 laps with lighter fuel. They pitted him with 10 laps to go because they did not want to show their hand. Th...

Re: LH/ Nico Strat call
With this strategy split, if the drivers are identical the lead car will win. What it allows is for a faster driver in P2 to have a chance of winning. Nico was very slow after his first pit stop. Nico on a new tyre pulled 1.3 seconds over 6 laps against Hamilton on a 20+ lap old tyre. Lewis was als...

Cars break down. That's how it goes. There will never be a season where a team have a 100% reliability record. Even the mighty Red Bull has it's own share of problems this season. For those that are still confused 1 - For Mercedes, the lead driver gets the first pitstop, no matter what. Hamilton leads. He gets first choice of pit. This means Nico can't undercut him by pitting first 2 - Nico's engineer changed his strategy because they wanted him to have a longer middle stint....
