Re: Bottas vs Massa Revisited: The Analysis Nobody Wanted

Why didn't Merc sign Massa over Bottas? Age + Toto Wolff connections with Bottas If you gave me the option between a 26 year old Bottas or 26 year old Massa, it would be a coin-toss for me. But Massa's performance in 2016 really wasn't good compared to Bottas. I'm not sure why Mercedes would even c...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

Some factors to consider: The 2006 cars were easier to drive than the cheese tyres era cars so the gap should get smaller. Schumacher was on empty and wanted to do things outside of F1 by 2006, showing reduced motivation. Massa was loved and supported in 2006 which affects his performances a lot. M...

Re: All Russian involvement in F1 [should be] annulled

No politics means no politics. I might give a pass on a driver's national anthem playing when they win a race though, because those aren't overt political posturings. Silly jingoism perhaps but not political . Jingoism is pretty much the opposite of being not political. jingoism noun the jingoism o...

Also Massa was on his decline while Bottas was on his ascendency. Their 3 years together showed exactly that curve.

However you may define this position yourself, yes. Or maybe people have been calling for Saudi Arabia to be dropped from the calendar and boycotted for years? That too is selective, because the US GP of 2003 would have been a prime candidate for cancellation if we went down that rabbit hole back then. No Saudi or Arab or Muslim interests were banne...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

I don't recall anyone declaring fandom for Schumacher. Let's just stick to the observations. Rubens' rep comes from being dominated at Ferrari but his demonstrations either side of his Ferrari run show a high calibre driver who beat Button in 2008 and 2009 while past his best, and had a 1999 resembl...

It's hard to take your post seriously when you said that Barrichello beat Button in 2008 and 2009. As well as 2008, yes on performance Rubens beat Button in 2009 too. I've already linked to a good analysis on 2009. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ4e1TgvvbX1L6OjmIvV-yQ/community?lb=UgkxKFc-STRK9i...

I think there is a lack of scientific evidence to be making the kind of claims that you are looking to make, also some of the observations are baffling like Barrichello was the equal of Button in 2009, one poster saying he was actually better. Schumacher was going through the same age range against...

Just that there more often is than isn't and therefore it's reasonably fair to suppose Barrichello was not as good at 37 than he was at 30. In counter to this, Barrichello clearly had beyond normal longevity than his contemporaries. It actually wouldn't surprise me if he kept a relatively stable pe...

Fuelled qualifying. Adjusted for fuel weight doesn’t make Button look any better IIRC. 2006 was a complete write off and shouldn't count for Rubens.

He was failing to make it out of Q1 while Button was fighting for pole position. This is not normal.

2007-2009 gives a more sensible "median average" to compare performances with.

Don't know how he will, but what he SHOULD do is lay down a marker at the earliest opportunity that he won't turn his wheel away when Max does one of his "move or we'll crash" manoeuvres. He should allow the contact to happen and make clear the only reason he was doing it last year was because of th...

These rules are a very contrived way of not having monsoon tyres. They worked really well when they were tested. Simply mandate tyre guards when the track is declared wet to block the water from going airborne, then we have a full motor race. Tada!
