Re: The Great Big 2021 A > B > C Thread
I think the main understanding we seem to be getting form this, is that the very best drivers tend to be able to drive 'unstable' cars at a speed that the rest cannot match, but without such a property, the difference between them and the rest tends to be much smaller, and therefore makes ranking th...

Re: Mercedes W13 revealed!
Daft question but what if the Merc concept happened to be a red herring, just to get the other teams in a flap? I know it's highly unlikely - largely due to resources / cost being flushed away - but it would be quite amusing! Perhaps not so daft they clearly had two very different designs available...

Re: Mercedes Lodge Multiple Protests Against Result
I think it was right decision to race even though Mercedes was in disadvantage with back-marker out of the way . It could have happen the other way round as well if Max was in Hamilton position. That is how it happens in sports :-| Not according to the rules. They should have left the backmarkers i...

Re: 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
4.12.9 When ordered to do so by the clerk of the course the observer in the car will use a green light to signal to any cars between it and the race leader that they should pass. This wasn't the issue - since they weren't in front if Lewis - they were between Lewis and Verstappen, but no further ba...

Re: 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Race Thread
F1 needs to remember it's a sport first and foremost What you really mean is that F1 is supposed to be a game , first of all - where the outcome is decided based on the player's own behaviour (within a structured environment), not a judge's opinion which turns it into a competition . Which is also ...

Can you provide a source that they were British? I can confirm one thing about that situation - the Race Marshal (examining observer) who originally reported/flagged him for overtaking on the formation lap was definitely British ;) :D (I know this because I went marshalling with him that season, ju...

Re: PF1 Forum teammate wars vote: Qatar 2021
what technical issues did Leclerc have in qualifying? He said he thought it was a good lap and was shocked at his position. Leclerc was confirmed to have a cracked chassis -- sufficiently damaged that the FIA allowed Ferrari to replace it under Parc Ferme without having to make a pitlane start. I k...

Re: Why I am seriously considering turning off F1
You know cars are too easy to drive because on the rare occasion one gets out of shape for a fraction of a second, the commentators get excited! Drivers should be getting all crossed up most laps. Bring back stick shift leaving just one hand on the wheel... Would you be in favour of seemless shift ...

Re: Monty has left the building! What will happen now?
By contrast, Marchionne is a CEO coming from the english-speaking financial environment. He is there to make money for the shareholders, plain and simple. If at any time in the future the board thinks e.g. Ferrari's stepping out of F1 is going to result in +0.something percent on their balance shee...

DRS & Tyres.

Re: Pirelli rule the game (again)?
The overall problem (or disease) as some have called it, with overtaking and racing in F1, was caused by a very particular change, which better reliability only exacerbated, which KERS/DRS and now the current tyres try and make up for. I can't remember who it was who did the research (maybe Dolomite...

Re: Austin 2012
You mean F1 doesn't trump "football" and Nascar??? 600 million viewers world wide. The people who want to watch F1 will be watching, and the real fans will be in Austin. You do understand that the 600m refers to viewers for the entire season, right - not just one race, (which is anything from ~25-3...

off the top of my head: Schumacher black flag at silverstone 1994. now i was a massive Damon Hill fanboy in those days. but schumacher passed him a couple of times on the parade lap. really? who flipping cares ? also i loved how in that era (mid90s) drivers got race bans for causing accidents etc. ...

Re: 2012 Conclusiones so far..
F1 is becoming too much about the show. We have all these devices (The jelly tyres, KERS, DRS) encouraging artificial racing. Theres lots of overtaking, drivers tyres fall off and they lose heaps of places, no team really understands how to go fast THAT well and some smaller teams luck out big time...
