Re: Stick the drivers in simulators and televise a virtual r

I watched an esports F1 race the other day, with proper commentary, and after the first five minutes I forgot it was virtual.

I think it was this one:

Edit to add: all drivers in equal machinery can't be a bad thing.

Re: Point for fastest lap

It might also encourage a 2nd-placed driver who is around a pitstop ahead of third to chance his arm. Take a quick pitstop, come out neck and neck, then flog it to the line to get an extra point. If they screw up the pit stop, he's third, but he MIGHT be able to get second back on new tyres. Maybe. ...

Re: Point for fastest lap

I don't think I care too much one way or the other about this. Maybe it'll add some interest to the end of races? Maybe not. Are Merc and Ferrari just gonna sweep them all though? Imagine two or three drivers at the end of the race all putting in fastest lap after fastest lap. Drivers who are not g...

Re: F1 Drivers Salaries Revealed for 2019!

Wise investment by Renault. If they want to snatch 3rd in the WCC off Red Bull, it's probably cheaper to take Dan at 26 mill than put that much extra into developing the car. With Dan + a semi decent F1 car, they might be able to finish ahead of Gasly this season more than a few times.

Re: Silly Season 2019

I reckon Red Bull should put Hartley in the seat alongside Verstappen next year. He's older, wiser and more experienced than Max, and I doubt he'd rock the boat (unlike Sainz or Gasly, who are Max/Dan Baku incidents just waiting to happen.) I don't think Hartley's had a fair chance this year, with ...

Re: When, and to where, will Ricciardo move? [A: 2019, Renau

Just curiosity here, but if RB decide on Sainz for the drive, what's the chance he and Daniel switch teams this year? I'd imagine RB would be keen, because it would keep Dan out of the loop on future RB developments. And Renault ... well, they get Dan six months early. Would it affect WDC and WCC st...

Re: Ricciardo 2019 contract. Where will he end up?

I picked Ferrari. More wishful thinking that anything else, but the team needs two drivers up front every race. I know that's unfair on Kimi because it's generally the team throwing him under the bus for Vettel's benefit, but there you go. Also, I would love to see a bit of pressure put on Vettel af...

Interesting to see Horner mention Hamilton along with Raikkonen and Bottas on the PF1 main site today. I could see Ham and Ric swapping seats - might suit both of them.

Re: "Wouldn't that be awesome?"

Why can't they just handicap the cars? Use qualy to set the weights, from 1kg on pole down to 0 for last. Before all the silly grid penalties are applied, btw. The weight stays there all season, and gets added to race by race.

After half a dozen races the field should bunch up nicely.

Hope Paul get's another chance but there's a good chance he won't. And he got that chance. I thought he did really well today, .7 off Stroll with no prep time is great going. (Apologies if it was wrong of me to dig this thread up, but hey, he's driving tomorrow. Shouldn't we use the official thread?)

Alonso & Webber at McLaren for 2015?

Talk about starting rumours. First Ron Dennis says they're choosing from 4 drivers, not 3. Then Webber turns up at Abu Dhabi .. hanging around the McLaren garage, I think the commentators just said? Plus McLaren are going to need experience at developing the car next year, and Webber has that by the...

Ted Kravitz just posted this on Twitter:

"Red Bull copy Williams hole in front hub (which itself was copied from RBR's banned vented hub). Vettel's car only http://t.co/GRPq3a4Q0q"

It's the 'Vettel's car only' bit which is going to set off another wave of conspiracy theories.

I thought Newey said something about the front left/right tyre and the wear. He was telling Vettel why they wanted the cars to slow down, and Vettel seemed to be saying there was nothing wrong with the tyres.

If Webber and Vettel do start from the back it's going to be an electrifying race. Vettel has a lot more to lose of course, given he's 2nd on the grid and Webber's 8th.

Those two charging through the field would be riveting though. Anyone know if rain is likely?

We're lucky in Aus - Channel 10 gives us three days of formula one coverage for the Ozzie GP, and a couple of times they've had Murray in to stroll around the pits, interview people and do special features. I think he was there last year and it was great.

One theory floating around was that Mark was harder on the 2011 spec Pirellis than Vettel, which meant he either couldn't drive as hard or had to change them more often. Apparently the 2012 spec tyres are a bit more durable than last year's, which could tighten things up a bit. There's still the mat...
