Re: Engine regs 2026

I think the MGU-H is indeed connected to the turbocharger, but they are only removing that, not the turbo. It would be interesting to see which component had most failures, MGU-H or MGU-K. Based on data from F1 Fansite for years 2018[1] through to 2021[2], a total of 291 MGU-H units were used versu...

Re: Engine regs 2026

Am I anywhere close here? Well yes[1], except only Mercedes did the split design initially[2]. Recall that a electric motor works as a generator (and vice versa), so you could do a traditional turbo but with an engine connected to the shaft. To reduce turbo lag just have the electric motor spin up ...

I didn't say that MGU-H is the same as a regular turbo. They 1.6 turbo V6 configuration stays as far as I understand it. It is the regeneration from the heat that they will do away with. Aha, my misunderstanding then. For some reason I've always seen MGU-H as a combination of the the turbo and elec...

Ok so the MGU-H is a bit more than a regular turbo, but my point still stands I think. It's surely a complex and costly piece of kit, both from a development and manufacturing perspective.

Re: Engine regs 2026

Sustainable fuel is totally duh at this point. Keeping the V6 unchanged makes sense cost-wise, as does dropping the turbo, surely it's a significant cost driver. A 470hp electrical motor should provide for some great acceleration, provided the tires can put the power down. So tire management might b...

I think electric will be a greater part of F1 as technology improves, but barring a significant breakthrough I don't see battery tech making a full Formula 1 race possible for quite a while. Given the extraordinary cost of everything else in F1 I fail to see the issue with F1 just using sustainable ...

The track is the track, and they should race on it rather than outside of it.

I get that it's hard to judge inside the car, but then racing in F1 isn't a walk in the park to begin with. They all have some very detailed sims, so surely that could aid with this as well.

I landed on no, mainly due to the safety aspect. I don't think it was a safe place to race. In addition there was one and a half overtaking spots, which isn't great for such a long track.
