Re: 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix Race Thread

Red Bull have put a new PU in Verstappen's car but it won't result in a penalty. Interesting - did they find something yesterday on the Silverstone engine that they didn't like the look of? A worry nonetheless as that new engine has to survive 12 more grand prix. A penalty is inevitable later but a...

Re: 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix Race Thread

As a Lewis fan, this may be the first time I’ve ever not wanted a wet race. Which suggests to me that some of us don't feel he's the best driver in the wet. However, I still back Hamilton. I'd love to see Verstappen put it in the barriers trying to catch Hamilton in the wet. However, what I want to...

Re: 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread

There you have it, well that’s that cleared up. Quite a few posters jumped the gun here. I even read that Hamilton did what Alonso did to him in 2007... The only driver doing something different to the others was Verstappen.

Re: 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread

Yep. It's totally legal but spoils it for me and I guess others. Time they introduced a minimum speed limit for qualifying. There was a minimum speed Yes, but that still allows you to drive at 5 mph during parts of the lap providing the lap average is fast enough. Unless there's a mechanical issue,...

Yea because it’s impossible to overtake a car going half speed… It is when that car is going fast enough where passes can be made. Yep. It's totally legal but spoils it for me and I guess others. Out of line by Lewis there. Last time something like this happened in Hungary there was a penalty for the driver who held - ironically - Lewis up and stopped the then-rookie from getting a final lap in. Mercedes themselves report from the GPS data that Verstappen was going 1kmph faster into Corpse than his fastest lap in qualifying, despite running 100kg of fuel and on cold and harder tyres and on a tighter line. So it seems neither would make the corner. Verstappen was taking a wider line than no...

Max is still a better racer than he is a qualifier. Repeating your opinion does not make it into a fact. Nonetheless, Verstappen’s race pace is better than his qualy pace anyway. I'm not sure I agree with that. That is the long game no? Hamilton was on the inside, there is no scenario in which he can come out of that worse. If they make contact, the car on the outside will come off worse, 80-90% of the time. You can also be calculated when taking big risks. There isn't really any scenario where if they do...

That's why I view it as a racing incident. Max was judging the space based on his own line - but Hamilton's natural line was wider, and Hamilton's understeer occurred because Max took this line - but could have anticipated this and angled his car accordingly. The more I look at the incident, the mo...

Verstappen kept the lead but it was ultimately Verstappens start that allowed Hamilton to justle him through the first half lap. A cleaner start and he leads the first stint.
However, I agree a start where you lose 1 place or go side by side into turn one is not an error.

I read some mumblings on here after the Sprint race about Hamiltons poor start going as a mistake. Any thoughts on Verstappens start yesterday?

Would he have been penalised for going all four wheels off to retain the lead?
