Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

Johnson talked about context. Then he used a year that was cut in half to make a point. It is ironic to say the least, but maybe my post was a tad distasteful, so I'll apologise for that. However, if we want to be correct, Silverstone shouldn't count; the race was restarted and shortened by 1 lap, ...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

Hamilton didn't miss 7 races in 2016, please stop making a nonsense comparison. It's not nonsensical. In races they both entered, Irvine scored more points despite being utterly outperformed by Schumacher. Johnson talked about context. Then he used a year that was cut in half to make a point. Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

Hamilton didn't miss 7 races in 2016, please stop making a nonsense comparison. What? Michael entered 10 races in 1999. In those 10 races, Irvine out scored him. The missed races are removed. I think you'll find that he wasn't included for Silverstone. Even in F1's website: https://www.formula1.com...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

Hamilton had Button comfortably beat for 2.5 seasons out of 3. 2010, Hamilton dominated Button. Button finished ahead of Hamilton 3 times when both finished. 2 were in mixed conditions when Button gambled (whilst behind Hamilton) and won the race. The other was in Japan when Hamitlon was a long way...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

I've been extremely uncharitable to Hamilton suggesting he would be swept by Schumacher. I got the wrong end of the stick with Invade's post. I don't think Schumacher has a big enough margin to sweep Hamilton, maybe through intangibles within a team but on pure performance no. I'll now reclaim my H...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)

Not sure how anyone can conclude it would be a Schumacher clean sweep, considering Schumacher was never really tested by an outright quality teammate (unless you subscribe to the theory that Rubens was just as good as Fernando). As Invade says, a small but decisive edge often leads to a clean sweep...

Re: Hamilton's Sportsmanship (split from Bahrain 2021 Race Thread)

I'm not even sure if this was Kimi hanging Hamilton out to dry - this was a chicane, and he was going left for the left part. There was no way to give space there without completely conceding the position - leaving space doesn't mean allow the other car through. Hamilton was sufficiently far behind...

That's not true though - Hamilton wasn't forced off track, he just chose to cut the chicane and came out ahead of Raikkonen (instead of tucking behind him when he lost the corner). He then let Raikkonen by before immediately taking the position back under braking at the first corner. Here's the vid...

Re: The Official Sir Lewis Hamilton thread

I highly doubt that the 9 tenths gap between Vettel and Bourdais had much to do with fuel loads if anything at all, that’s just desperate reaching. Anyway, the fastest car that weekend was McLaren, but Kovalainen simply couldn’t keep up with Vettel while Hamilton had his issues in qualifying (that ...

Comparing Sainz Q2 vs Leclerc Q3 is the best example of both drivers at there best. For me, the most useful information. Comparing Sainz Q3 vs Leclerc Q3 is an example of a mistake ridden lap of Sainz vs Leclerc's maximum. Unless Sainz makes errors continually then surely the first comparison is not...

Re: 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix Race Thread

Yes, the strategy was great. That is always the advantage of running second place, you can be aggressive and if it does not work, you finish 2nd. If you are in the lead and aggressive, you can throw away a win. Red Bull did not have Perez in P4 to stop this strategy, although the tyre offset between...

A stark contrast with Hamilton at Spa where he cut the chicane and let Kimi (?) past, only to immediately overtake him again on the straight. Assuming this is true, of course (haven't read anything about this). In that situation Hamilton was actually forced off the track and he was never really pas...

Bottas race pace was exactly equal to Hamiltons, funny how so many jumped on Bottas’ back for this race. I feel Lewis has more to come in this car. It usually takes him 3-4 races to warm up. It might take longer this year with no real pre season. http://en.mclarenf-1.com/index.php?page=chart&gp=1057...

Hamilton was expected to be in that GOAT conversation until he had an awful second half of 2011. 2012 repaired his reputation but not to the heights of beforehand. It takes many years to repair a bad year, like Vettel had only just recovered from his bad 2014 by the time he started dropping the ball...

Bottas was strong, makes me think Lewis has not clicked with the car yet. Bottas was 0.2 off in qualifying and once you account for the 4 seconds lost fighting Leclerc and the long pit stop - he lost about 5-10 seconds to Lewis over the race distance.
