Imagine how easily Vettel would have won 2010 if Webber let him through in Monaco and Turkey. That’s 32 points gained right there.
He did let him through in Turkey. It wasn't Webber's fault that Vettel then turned into him.

Re: Alonso's legacy in F1

Statistically, I suppose Alonso’s career will ultimately look like one of under achievement. But then, I remind myself that Nelson Piquet won far more races and titles than Gilles Villeneuve and Ronnie Peterson combined. And I smile a little at how impoverished an outlook it is to look at the stats ...

I doubt Alonso to Ferrari is happening - but if it is, then I would have thought Vettel must be off to Merc? And maybe 2 years for Alonso paired withLeClerc, with the idea that Leclerc takes over as the main contender in a Ferrari from 2020? Something like that? But I think Alonso back to Ferrari is...

I'm surprised at Herbert saying this about Alonso. IMo Herbert was under-rated as driver, and suffered bullying from MSC. Good for Alosno to pull him up, because such pubicity can form many fans opinions. However Herbert is Sunday School compared to Hunt's ten year tv dissing of Patrese, just becau...

Sorry but Alonso was a bully here.. The worst things have been said to Lewis when he abandoned McLaren for Mercedes but i don't remember him been this disrespectful to any of those folks. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to learn that those messages were planned with the full, albeit tacit, approval of Dennis and Neale. Obviously the latter have to appear to be annoyed in order to placate Honda but no one involved in this is stupid.

As much as I like to see a F1 race in Finland, but there isn't any proper racing track for modern F1 in Finland, is it? I believe they have a track that is FIA grade 2, and just needs runoff to be grade 1. If they can get decent sponsorship/government cash, it can be done. Much cheaper than a new t...

I'm not sure it was 1974, mind - 2x2 was introduced that year but it tended to be the zig-zagging 2x2 format in some locations until 1979.

Plenty of F1 drivers have started races (and indeed completed them) whilst suffering from flu. Most recently Mark Webber at Fuji in 2007 (or maybe that one was 2008, but it's the one where he vomited live on the radio).

It's not an automatic reason to withdraw someone from the test/event in advance.

Difficult to judge on one race alone, but his performance was solid enough to justify being a candidate for a race seat next year if the team survives. Doubt he's a future WDC, but we've seen a lot worse in F1 in the recent past. Probably rate him above Chilton, for example.

He may be ruthless but Honda are quite clearly *very* keen on having Alonso in the car; or Hamilton if some bizarre chain of events unfolds over the next few days. As it's in the middle of a desert, and can therefore be modified without having to bulldoze anything, you have to assume they'd be able to add little extra bits for car racing - e.g. a much tighter T1. Shanghai, for example, has a different layout for motorbikes than it does for cars. Though 3 races...

Massa in bigging up the team mate who beat him easily shocker. Given how Bottas has beaten him rather easily this year it makes Alonso efforts between 2010-12 seem slightly less impressive IMO. There was something on another forum about Kimi agreeing to a 20% pay cut for next year vis-a-vis what was originally in his contract. I do wonder if Mattiaci was contemplating Vettel-Bianchi, which clearly isn't going to happen now, sadly.

Clearly there is a need to learn lessons from this. I recall Liuzzi coming within about five feet of sliding under one of these vehicles at the Nurburgring in 2007 (when half the field slid off at T1 on the second lap). Since then I've always winced whenever the tractors are out and about.
