Re: 2024 Australian Grand Prix Race Thread
I think calling it a brake test is a little unfair, even if it technically was one. The spirit of what Alonso was doing, wasn't to brake test Russell in the way we understand the term brake test. I've no reason to disbelieve Alonso, his recount seems like what he was trying to do, and what happened...

Re: So... who replaces Lewis at Mercedes?
Given Sainz's recent performances it seems line a no brainer. It doesn't even look like Ferrari has made a good choice letting him go for Hamilton, not because I think Sainz is better than Hamilton, but because of their ages and likely commitment. Lewis is likely to want to leave F1 if he doesn't g...

Alonso forgot that it was Russell behind him and not Hamilton. He's been doing that with Lewis and other drivers and wins driver of the day and plaudits for his awesome defensive ability to keep faster cars behind - Finally, he got punished - there should be a race ban.

Time for a new tyre compound to give Pirelli competition here - these tyres have hardly any difference except on Saturday. Bring back Michelin or Bridgestone to add a little more spice. I don’t mind seeing Red Bulls getting 1-2’s every race from now till 2030 but there needs to be variability of tyr...

Re: Hamilton to Ferrari for 2025 Season
Hamilton has nothing left to prove. Most men would love to drive a Ferrari when they enter retirement, Hamilton gets to live that dream out. I think for Hamilton he doesn’t care if he wins, loses, draws at this point. For Ferrari I think this is a strange call, 5 years too late.

This race was a tantalising glimpse of what the season might have been like minus Red Bull... Yup ! I think convergence is closer than we think, maybe 1 to 2 more seasons before the other top teams close in. F1 should just learn to not try changing any rules for the next 10 years if possible. What can we hope for in the next 2 years, as it stands now more podiums but will wins and poles be still so difficult. Encouraging race for Merc. If they can improve their one-lap pace and have both cars consistently on the second row, I think we may start seeing them close the gap to Red Bull in the second half of the season. Marginal gains like finishing 10 to 15 seconds behind the winning RB car would be a huge a...

Interesting to hear George’s comments. He seems to think the Red Bulls were faster (relative pace) in testing. Might have held back a little for sake of reliability, which is a scary prospect.

Can Max win 15+ races this season? I think this season is a perfect storm of regulation changes and Red Bull reliability/race pace/dominance over Ferrari/Merc that Max can aim for record race wins in a single season even if Leclerc and Perez out qualify Max on Saturdays.

Where did Mclaren's sudden pace come from? In the last two races, they were nowhere. Hopefully, they can build on this! If they can continue the pace they showed today the rest of the midfield is going to be fighting for scraps in 9th and 10th place.

Re: BREAKING NEWS... Michael Masi Removed As Race Director
Big picture, Masi will be ok. But what happened to him is quite unreasonable. Losing track position to Max would have ended Hamilton's race because Max would have taken any evasive action possible to stay ahead (as we saw on Lap 1 of Abu Dhabi, and in Saudi, and in Interlagos). Previous FIA regimes...

I think this is an acknowledgment by the FIA that there was a mess-up so I'll give them that. In years past, Mosely would have deaded this investigation before it even started. Hypothetically if Hamilton did retire, who do we think Mercedes would replace him with? Vandoorne and De Vries are in their stable and probably the most likely, but would they be willing to run a lineup with such a lack of experience of racing at the front in F1? Would/could a deal be cut with anot...

Interesting that there wasn’t any contact today - the Max dive bomb on Lewis at the start of the race being the closest they really got today.
