Re: Who are the BEST QUALIFIERS on the grid?
Some people have decided that Verstappen is the fastest driver in the history of mankind because of the way he handles his teammates. There is a movement that wants to paint Max Verstappen as the second coming of Schumacher rather than the guy actually matching and surpassing his records (who they ...

No it just makes sense to have a Covid substitute, I thought Hulk is also going to be a back up at Mercedes presumably when Vandoorne has clashing commitments with FE.Option or Prime wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 10:23 amDoes Nico Hulkenberg going AM put pressure on Vettel? Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
But that wasn't the point of the post, which was to highlight Schumacher's contribution to Mercedes's success today, that team building trait which Hamilton (or anyone else) doesn't hold a candle to. Only two people in F1 history are this instrumental in building dominant teams more than once - one...

Re: Who are the BEST QUALIFIERS on the grid?
There seems to be a desperate need to paint Verstappen as the driver making the difference in a marginally inferior car despite a marginal but visible superiority at Bahrain due to drivability and engine performance of Red Bull. I feel someone may be steadying themselves for a "but Mercedes was the...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
Yes, that is a myth, really. It started out with some projections than Schumacher with an ideal season could have matched Rosberg (without assuming an ideal season for him as well, of course). And over the years, the mantra was developed that he was better than Rosberg, which is as false as the cla...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
But so what if Bottas ignored Merc... He was in the right wasn't he. That was proved at the start when he overtook Verstappen. Merc should be thanking him. If you seriously think Hamilton wouldn't put himself in the best possible position to win a race (which was all that Bottas was doing) then you...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
It's strange how we keep getting told that in his final year he was better than Rosberg. Why is it strange? It's a fairly commonly held opinion, although certainly not universal. There's even some data that suggests it might be true (point projections adjusted for reliability, mostly) although I ha...

Re: Sprint races to replace Saturday qualifying?
So basically what's being proposed is a qualifying session in a race format. It would help if they didn't call it a race...but it is one. Only the "reward" isn't a race win it's your grid-slot for Sunday. Its a mess however you look at it. So what is a Pole now? P1 on Friday even though you could e...

I don't know whether this has already been asked / addressed but I assume that a Sprint race win does not count towards overall Grand Prix wins? What with it being more of a 'Mini-Prix.' More specifically, how will this look against a driver's stats? For example, should Hamilton be on 99 GP wins go...

I don't think Merc were actively disadvantaging Bottas. I don't think the quali thing is a big deal TBH. It's the clear disappointment of Bottas winning rather than Hamilton. "Not a complete disaster". Do you think Hamilton winning would have been described in that language? Do you think Hamilton w...

Question on the Raikkonen-McLaren era - is there anything to suggest he was actually better at that point and he failed to reach that level 2007 onwards? Re: Sprint race at Silverstone. 2021
I believe they are keeping a practice session between qualy and the sprint race (so effectively FP3 stays, but becomes FP2 on paper). Just to point out... My source is Valterri Bottas and Toto Wolf. What you've sighted is an unsourced paragraph of speculation. Surely you can see how those things are not equitable? Re: Who are the BEST QUALIFIERS on the grid?
However and notwithstanding, if Perez keeps performing like in Bahrain (which I don't believe he will), this will not lead to this conclusion. It was obvious in the race that Perez drove one of the best cars on the grid. The inevitable conclusion is that he messed up qualifying - and that's really ...

Re: Who are the BEST QUALIFIERS on the grid?
Probably worth noting that qualifying is probably Perez's weakest area and Bottas' strongest. And yet the Perez-Button-Hamilton-Bottas cross comparison suggests that Bottas has, at most, a tenth on Perez over one lap. Not the most accurate method obviously, but it does suggest that Perez is not as ...

Re: Sprint races to replace Saturday qualifying?
Yeah this is a bit of a shocker. Re: Sprint race at Silverstone. 2021
I think qualifying will likely take the FP3 slot and the sprint would take the qualifying slot, at a guess. No qualifying is on Friday and replaces FP2, while the FP3 slot I believe disappears completely so the 4 slots are reduced to 3 slots but I guess we will still be told that we are being given...
