Re: Official Max Verstappen thread

Good luck to Verstappen this coming weekend not just with the result but that he comes through it safely, with all the talk of this year's F1 being too dangerous he's partaking in a far more dangerous race, if I was a fan I would have special concern, maybe I'm being a bit morbid if I remember F1 d...

Re: New Regs .. First Impressions?

Indeed watching intervals is what I do in most races. Which is why it is a shame I can't get live timing to coincide with the broadcast. And the broadcast keeps on switching away from showing the intervals for large portions of the race unfortunately. Kudos to both for the film reference, which may...

Re: New Regs .. First Impressions?

True ignorance is bliss, F1 for too long has defaulted to boring racing, you get a taste of what it can be like then I don't want it to go back to how it was before, the past 2 years seem to have been particularly bad with the lack of overtaking where one stops became the go to strategy because fre...

Funny you say that. One of my colleagues, 60 yrs old, is a newish fan, one of the DTS recruits. He absolutely loves this formula. Raves about it. Thinks the racing is so exciting. I have tried, on numerous occasions, to explain the nuance of why it's exciting & why there's so much overtaking & why,...

Re: New Regs .. First Impressions?

The problem with active aero is that it is not under control of the driver. Otherwise it could have been an invaluable tool for drivers who are willing to take more risks. The same goes for the whole electrical system. Whatever happened to driving the car unaided? https://www.formula1.com/en/latest...

Re: New Regs .. First Impressions?

On active aero, I earlier thought - why ban it? But with the current regs / implementations, it looks rather artificial and I struggle to figure out how it helps racing - what racing benefit does it actually provide? (I see none.) So my opinion has changed on that. And then there's the concept of a...

Although I do not follow MotoGP closely, the series' regulations changes for 2027 seem a step in the right direction, banning ride-heigth devices and reducing aerodynamics. https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/1048005/1/motogp-confirms-2027-regulations-here-they-are Thanks for that URL! 31 pages of fi...

Re: 2026 Miami Grand Prix Race Thread

If the FIA introduced a rule that stated one entity couldn't have a controlling stake in a team I'm sure Red Bull would find a buyer rather than just shut up shop. So I don't really see that as an issue. I don't think such a rule would hold up in court if challenged. It is simply a long-running pra...

But they do.... Red Bull themselves own numerous football teams. I agree though, the time has passed when we needed to have two teams owned by the same organisation. I am sure Red Bull would be willing to sell if the right buyer with enough funds comes along. But I rather think there are no bidders...

2024 Russell > Hamilton 0.17s (16-4) 2025 Leclerc > Hamilton 0.17s (17-5) I see little difference. It’s possible we have different methods, I have Leclerc 0.21s ahead of Hamilton. One key difference is likely Spain. Leclerc was 3 tenths faster in the first run but then deliberately decided against ...

Leclerc is for sure faster than Russell through Hamilton (using only 2024 and 2025). Maybe by only half a tenth in qualifying but definitely by a larger gap than that on race day. Antonelli is an all-timer talent around Verstappen level I suspect. Russell is around a prime Ricciardo level driver. 2...

Good news on the 27 regs Glad they still have some sense to steer towards the right direction. Now we need more pressure to bring this down to a 70-30 ratio with electric mostly used for boost. Tbf to Russell, if the luck had went his way in China and Japan it could easily be 3-1 in his favour. Not that I think Antonelli has been especially lucky, or Russell especially unlucky. His very strong start this year may be an anomaly ( somewhat explainable by Merc's strength), but he certainly looks to me like "the real deal".
