Below are a classic examples of Hard but Fair driving where both drivers are trying their best to outdo one another with one trying to keep his attacker behind and the other trying to figure out a way past the guy up front, but they never exceed track bounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-ZMQpd...

Re: what happened to "leave a space"?
I really don't understand what your objection actually is but I also really don't want to get into the weeds of Suzuka 1989, I picked it because I thought it was pretty uncontroversial that Prost hit Senna on purpose, marking the start of well-known incidents of drivers seeking to gain an advantage ...

Re: what happened to "leave a space"?
F1 should appropriately punish professional fouls. It's really that simple, all of this is a sideline. We know Max is only doing this stuff because he thinks the crime is worth the time. The problem is that there's a long, long history (1989!) of not doing that. 1989? I doubt we even know half of w...

Max at some point in 2021, either for one of the many incidents being recognised as cynical, or for an accumulation of points from extremely aggressive moves directed towards his championship rival. The failure of the stewards to act early to enforce driving standards was a big part of why that seas...

Re: The illustrious five second penalty
The ineffectiveness of the 5s penalty that seemed to be given in response to any misbehaviour is a big part of why 2021 got so messy. The crime was worth the time, particularly in the context of a two horse race. They've ended up in the opposite place of the late 2000s, where the only penalty availa...

I mean, I didn't particularly rate NdV based on his performance against Vandoorne, who IMO outperformed him at Mercedes EQ. But if you're going to sign a new driver, at least give him a season to find his feet.

The other reason for me to lose interest was that I was really hoping that the cost cap would close up the field and end this pattern of one team winning everything. That's... not what's happened.
The last time that either the WDC or WCC wasn't won by a car from Team Brackley or Red Bull was 2008.

Re: It's finally happened...
2021 did a lot of damage to my enthusiasm for F1. It wasn't just the fiasco in Abu Dhabi, the whole back half of the season was a complete breakdown in rules enforcement leading to a bitter, mean-spirited mess. In retrospect it reminds me a lot of 1994 minus Imola. The cost cap revelations in 2022 m...

Why can't they announce the penalty at the same time as announcing the breach? It's hardly unforeseeable. As for the penalty... They have a golden oppertunity to be harsh on a minor breach without actually effecting a championship. They could take 150 points off Red Bull for both 2021 and 2022 and ...

I was thinking of Max Mosley this morning. The good and the bad can be seen in the Ferrari bargeboard fiasco if 99. Fer...

Re: Parkgate: Tsunoda told to "go out, pit exit, and stop".
The Alpha Tauri/Red Bull relationship has always been problematic and open to abuse, and sending a car out of the pits to immediately retire it on the road is deeply odd... but the conspiracy theory makes no sense. As others have said, they probably would have won the race even without the VSC, and ...

Examples of Masi incompetence. Well there’s a few to chose from 1.2020 Turkish GP Qualifying. I voted zero-tolerance, but I don't mind if they don't do precisely that. What matters to me is that they pick a rule and stick with it rather than chopping and changing.
Zero-tolerance also requires a solution for what happens when a car gets pushed off the track.

I was there in person. One thing that I think has been missed was that the safety car was completely avoidable. Yeah, I don't understand why Perez was allowed to keep that. But with no other competition it's a really narrow circumstance your being tested in. Does the best driver make the best benchmark? Monaco has been an anachronism for at least 30 years. The current track works for Formula E but F1 cars are big and fast enough to need a new layout, including at least one usable DRS zone.
