Re: Bold predictions - 2021
Here are my bold predictions: Hamilton will win 15 races and 10 in a row Bottas will go winless in 2021 Sainz to push Leclerc to the limit and finish within 10 points Alonso to win in extremely fortunate circumstances Stroll to get the only Aston Martin podium McLaren to drop behind Aston Martin, Re...

Re: Hamilton signs for Mercedes
I don't for one second believe that Hamilton wasn't pushing for a longer deal (or at least a 1+1 deal). I reckon this is the "take it or leave it" offer that overgeared was alluding to throughout his fantastical take on the negociations.

It's going to be Hamilton and Russell. If Lewis sees George as a threat and retires, it'll be a real let down and I don't think he wants to be seen running away from a battle.

Re: Hamilton signs for Mercedes
Gut tells me this is his last year in the sport and he will announce his retirement when he clinches the title. I'd be really gutted if Hamilton hung up his gloves at the end of the season. The F1 community would relish the opportunity for Hamilton, Leclerc and Verstappen to fight it out in competi...

Re: If Hamilton doesn't sign
There were times when it wasn't going all his own way, and periods where another team had a car that was performing marginally better - but lets not pretend he was some plucky underdog who had to perform miracles to win. I'm no implying that. IIRC underdog is a boxing term to describe the non-favou...

Re: If Hamilton doesn't sign
Even Rosberg has alluded to it a few times, as to how Hamilton likes to build the perception that he's the underdog or has to fight for everything, even when he's collecting virtually free titles in the all-conquering Merc. I don't dispute that Hamilton had easy runs to the title in 2015, 2019 and ...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
I get the impression that Hamilton is perhaps less ruthless than Schumacher was. I think he embraces the competition and is fairly comfortable working in a transparent environment and accepting that his team mates are closer to him, but also therefore both drivers and the team as a whole is more co...

Re: Hamilton vs Schumacher and their contemporaries (split from Official Hamilton Thread)
It doesn’t really matter how good Ricciardo or Verstappen are because neither have ever competed against Hamilton on a level playing field. While this is certainly true, there have been many races where Mercedes have been off the pace where the honours have been split between Hamilton, Verstappen a...

Like I said, I'm not saying Rubens in his Ferrari years was quite a match for 2012 Alonso, but 2003-4 Alonso certainly, and 2015-16 Alonso too. It's still a spectacularly mind-boggling take. You are entitled to it but I consider it a drastic overrating of a good driver. Button was consistently bett...

William's and Head started the rot by basically freezing Adrian Newey out of a partnership by signing Villeneuve and Frentzen behind his back. Newey wanted a stake in the team but William's and Head were living in their past glories and didn't foresee how Newey leaving would start their decade long ...

Schumacher-Barrichello-Button-Hamilton is probably the best cross comparison we have between prime Schumacher and Hamilton, and it points to Schumacher as the superior driver. I'm gonna be a bit controversial here, but I don't actually think Vettel is any better than Button. Button had many weekends at McLaren where he was at sea, Vettel had far fewe...

But he was offered a drive by Red Bull, and it's not like Renault was looking world-beating at the time either. Briatore has a lot to do with it I suspect. Senna's death divinised him, that's why he gets a free pass. Had he merely lived and he likely would have retired in 1997 with a possible six titles and stayed a GOAT contender until Schumacher matched him in 2004. As Nelson Piquet said in answer to "What's the difference between you and Senna?" "I'...

If every team has equal resources, nobody is going to dominate like Mercedes 2014-2021. The only way to achieve that level of dominance over such a long period of time is by outspending most of your rivals. We will see who's proven right. A cursory glance at team budgets only sees Mercedes the top ...

FIA will never allow another team to dominate like Mercedes 2014-2021 ever again. Of course they will, especially if the dominance is rooted in all-round excellence rather than loopholes.
