I don’t understand how this could result in him getting the championship? You wouldn’t cancel the whole race, most easiest would be disqualification for Alonso, which would result in Hamilton increasing his lead in the end.

But I’m guessing this is just a money grab

No,

Track was not suitable, too thin to allow proper racing

And the fact that one driver wasn’t racing, he was playing destruction derby and only pure luck stopped his opponent being taken out.

Verstappen was obliviously trying to take Hamilton out without looking deliberate.
