Re: Silly Season 2022

I think Russell won’t be announced as a Mercedes driver until after the end of the season now, and Bottas is being compliant so as to try and retain his seat. He and Mercedes both know that George won’t comply for long, it’ll be a Leclerc at Ferrari situation and any #1 status is no more once he sho...

Re: Forum verdict on the Hamilton/Verstappen collision

I have gone through all three options looking at the various angles since the coverage finished, so racing incident it is. Can’t disagree that both could have done more to avoid it. 10 second penalty is sort of going down the middle, which seems fair in this case (not that we want every single conta...

Re: 2021 British Grand Prix FP & Qualy/Sprint Thread

not that it will do much, but i think perez should certainly get a penalty for the manner in which he rejoined the track. He was so desperate that despite not being under good control, he tried to rejoin and nearly lost it and spun again when entering the track. It doesn't seem to be investigated, ...

Re: 2021 British Grand Prix FP & Qualy/Sprint Thread

I think the only positive is that they are awarding points to top3. Also drivers are saying they do not have to look after tyres and go flatout which I guess is little different to the race. Not sure why only 4 of them tried the soft tyres. I was expecting more soft tyre runners, but the teams must...

Re: 2021 British Grand Prix FP & Qualy/Sprint Thread

I also didn’t like it, but not so much because of what happened in today’s edition of Sprint Quali. Instead, it was because it shows what will happen sooner or later and how unsatisfying that will be. Today, no one really lost anything that wasn’t of their own making. I thought Russell/Sainz was a r...

Re: 2021 Austrian Grand Prix Race Thread

Watching back on the 4 coverage, the 2nd incident (so Perez’s first with Leclerc) seems the worst to me, yet all three incidents get exactly the same penalty. Kimi made quite a few errors, yet gets a penalty for something that both he and Vettel seem to agree was a misunderstanding. For his speeding...

George. Lando almost did similar a few weeks ago until he lost the lap to track limits. Amazing performance from him but I feel George may have been outperforming his car to a greater extent in this session. Had George got Q3 on the softs I wouldn’t have split them but beating two Ferraris on the sa...

Lando for me also. Had Lando not had the stewards hand 2nd to Bottas I might have voted Max as well, but I feel that Lando deserves more than he ended up with this weekend. To come so close to pole in a McLaren when the Red Bull is on fire was amazing. George seemed to not hold on as well as he was ...

Bottas handed 2nd in the stewards’ room and no points for Russell again :frown: I am getting fed up of Max dominating every week, at least when Hamilton was winning all the time he had to jump Vettel and Bottas occasionally or fend off Max etc for those wins. Ricciardo made up a few more places than Alonso, but he also did that in the 3rd best car on the grid. Alonso finished immediately behind his teammate who started much further up the grid than him. That flatters Alonso a little, as Norris had a good race while Ocon seems to have had a meh race. I’d ...

I do wonder if the perception that Perez was left out to dry by the team (which I do agree with) has been what won him DOTD. Not a great move by Mercedes there. Perez getting fastest lap wasn’t going to harm them, Bottas stopping gave Max the free stop which now means that Max has 1 point less of a deficit to overhaul than would otherwise have been the case. Whatever they have left out of their allocation of 10, I thought. I do wonder if it’ll end up being Gasly and Russell vying for Ocon’s seat if he is beaten over the season by Alonso. He didn’t do anything wrong on Sunday that I saw. With others spinning off, Vettel kept it on the road despite having a reputation for that. Did he get any points along with his stop/go penalty?
