Re: 2020 British Grand Prix Race Thread

I've seen a few on social media suggest that Hamilton should get a penalty for driving a damaged car all the way around the track without going into the pits on the last lap. I would suggest that is a load of utter nonsense. I had to look up which penalty Rosberg got at Zeltweg 2016 for continuing ...

Re: 2020 British Grand Prix Race Thread

Silly silly Red Bull. I guess that wraps the championship as well. I never understood the rule that says only cars in the points could get a point for fastest lap. And now I hope even F1 will understand the stupidity of some of its spicing up nonsense. Cars pitting out of the points trying for fast...

Re: 2020 British Grand Prix Race Thread

Every time Hamilton has bad luck, it so rarely seems to actually end up effecting him. In that sence, he is very lucky indeed. It is hardly surprisign that bottas's tyres went earlier if he was following close the whole time. I was thinking about Hamilton's radio call a few years ago (Mexico, I won...

Re: 2020 British Grand Prix Practice And Qualifying Thread

Strange to realize that by going too fast, Hamilton may have ruined the very slim chances of others who don't have a guaranteed place in the next part of qualifying. I don't know which drivers would have been on an attempt when the red flag was shown, but it is something that doesn't make sense to ...

Re: 2020 British Grand Prix Practice And Qualifying Thread

Some drivers really need to learn to drive slower when their car has wrecked tyres. At the speed Giovinassi was going back to the pits, it looked like he was damaging a lot of expensive parts and slowign down could have avoided that. Leclerc did the same during Monaco last year and put himself out ...

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. If, when eating it, you find the proof in the pudding, it means Ferrari's caterer was to blame! Shame on him/her/it!

Having watched it now, I can actually say that it re-enforced my view that Senna was definitely up for a DSQ, at least for the push start. First of all, they all say that being push started is a no-no, comparing also other motorsports. They also mention that you have to re-enter the track where you...

This is my take as well, but I do take the point on board that they gave him a Mickey Mouse penalty, something that would make anyone angry. Re: Inconsistent Penalties this year.

I wouldn't disagree with that. If by Prost being DSQ'd you mean DSQ'd from the championship or at least the very least forced to sit out the final race. In my head I'm in a strange place with the Senna one. I completely agree that it's worse but at the same time I find myself more easily able to em...

Re: Inconsistent Penalties this year.

Prost shunted Senna off to win a championship before Senna returned the favour. Had Prost been appropriately punished in 89 I doubt Senna would have felt safe to do what he did in 1990. I believe that if you look at the two incidents objectively, you will see the main and crucial difference. 1989 s...

Re: Inconsistent Penalties this year.

There does seem rather too much of a reluctance on the stewards part to award penalties for dodgy overtaking or dodgy defending when collisions are avoided. Hamilton should really have had a penalty for Monaco 2016, Leclerc for his dangerous defence at Monza, Stroll in Austria, Kvyat's torpedo in C...

Re: Inconsistent Penalties this year.

Why would Schumacher lose his statistics? He did win those races, he did get all the podiums/poles. The fact that he did that idiotic act and got banned from the WDC doesn't mean that the previous wins should not count towards his statistics. Also, Fisico got his win when two days after the 2003 Br...

If lights going out is a problem, change to green lights coming on within a certain window after the reds are all off. Or did I misunderstand the technical point the TS was making? What difference would that make if you can simply say that the movement wasn't picked up by the sensor. The idea isn't...

That’s embarrassing for them. It's rather troubling that everything is apparently "fixed" by midnight, if I understand Ricciardo's comments correctly. No. What do we know Vettel to be capable of, that is better than what we know Perez to be capable of? Being available is one thing, but how well a driver is going to suit this/next year's car is anybody's guess.

Re: Of the two Austria races, which did you like more?

The first one seemed more exciting, but that was just because of all the SC periods. The irony was that the best result possible, bearing in mind it was all contrived because of the SCs, was that the potential race winner was shoved off the track. The second seemed a bit duller, but at least it was ...

"What is wrong with HASS?" Leads to turmoil, strife, and sometimes war. For the Haas F1 team - I suspect they are down the same rabbit hole as Ferrari, losing performance on both the car and the engine. Haas is the Dutch word for hare. So at the moment, not really the name to have in the first plac...

I voted Räikkönen, Perez and Stroll, but I agree with just about every vote given. I was a bit surprised by the one for Leclerc, but perhaps that was for his honesty in acknowledging his fault for taking both Ferraris out?
