Re: Topical Trivia

As of today, Hamilton and Norris have completed the same number of races for McLaren - 110. I find that stat incredible. I still think of Norris as a relatively new driver having just progressed from the rookie era of his career....... Where as it seemed like Hamilton was at McLaren for a long time...

Re: Is Hamilton ruining Max’s legacy?

The McLaren certainly seemed to work better on the hards. Probably similar pace on Mediums. Not sure Norris would have gotten past Verstappen had he not gotten the lead mind. The pace difference wasn't that much. I'm just excited McLaren had a car that was able to beat Red Bull on pace and hope it c...

Luckiest win in a long time. Perfect SC timing. Lets see if he can win one on merit now one day The fastest driver in the race, Lando's sin seems to be winning the race. Lando can be both the fastest driver and having had a massive slice of luck in order to win. I don't think anyone is begrudging L...

Very happy that Norris is a race winner now, lowkey I think he’s the second best driver on the grid. Now he has thinks monkey off his back, I can see him winning a few races this year. I think he's second best purely because of Max's consistency (and Lando bottles too many Q3 results even compared ...

Keeping tabs on DotD. Given we don't get reliable results on these polls down to 10, we're going to tally the points based on the 90's scoring system for the top 6. If drivers are tied on votes, then whoever was ahead in the classified result wins. 1st - 10 2nd - 6 3rd - 4 4th - 3 5th - 2 6th - 1 Ch...

Massive slice of luck with the safety car but still dropped Verstappen in merit thereafter.

Re: Is Hamilton ruining Max’s legacy?

I think drivers find their ultimate pace pretty fast. That usually starts to taper off later in the career. But generally you can tell a drivers fast pretty soon after they come into the sport, even if error prone. As Mikey said, race pace is more of the builder that takes a few seasons of experienc...

Re: Where do you want Newey to go?

My question would be: how much design autonomy would Newey have at the various teams? I could be totally wrong, but it seems to me like Ferrari might put him on the shortest leash and constrain his designs the most. E.g., "we don't have enough budget; that design is too far afield of our current de...

Sargeant can't have any complaints if he is dropped.

He's had 1 and a bit seasons and is arguably still the weakest driver on the grid.

I watched the race live. I remember looking up Ceefax every 20 minutes for updates. Newey will be 67 by the time any of his work is being used by another team.

You do wonder how "full time" he will want the next move to be. Will somebody pushing 70 want to be steering the ship of a design team? Or will he want to be a consultant.

Well Autosport/Motorsport are reporting Newey has now handed in his resignation and we could get an announcement as soon as this weekend. Re: Is Hamilton ruining Max’s legacy?

I think even here on this forum there were plenty questioning just how good Vettel was back in 2012/13. Vettel was over-successful for his talent level, and weirdly I think he'd be looked on more favourable with just a couple of titles and say 30 odd wins. Vettels dominance was very formulaic (i.e q...

Re: Official Valtteri Bottas Thread

He is never getting a top drive again.

He has achieved everything he ever will in F1 and would leave the sport with a 12 season career, 10 race wins and be seen as a respected driver who was a step short of being a top driver.

Bottas could go to Indycar or something and be very competitive.

One thing about Max, I don't think I've ever seen a driver able to maintain such a high bar with such constancy - even Schumacher. He hasn't lost a race on merit in a year. Re: New points system

I have to disagree. In the current system, the second placed driver can actually stay pretty close to the leader by scoring a bunch of second places and the leader DNFing once in a while. 10 x 2nd = 180 and 7 x 1st = 175. Before 10 x 2nd = 60 and 7 x 1st = 63. For the fastest driver/car, a DNF is m...

The points only for the top 6 worked in the past, as probably up until the late 90s/early 00s there would always be a handful of opportunities each season for a team like Minardi to score points. The latter stages are one of the examples where you see that the cars are too big and clumsy when they are in wheel to wheel situations.

I did race until recently, albeit at a club level. When you are racing you rely so much on trusting other drivers being predictable. If they are, you just flow. Alonso still has the race craft, awareness and experience. I do think that relentless race pace has declined a bit though. I think the same maybe true for Hamilton. Sure he isn't an elite driver, but he is a guy who could get a WDC in the right circumstances. His race awareness, race management, and defence is amongst the best on the grid. He just lacks a tenth or two and consistency that the very best have.
