Re: Mercedes vs Red Bull - 2021

I just hope the new formula does not lock in performance like the 2014 rules did, and it is possible for midfield teams to be one front runners. The budget capping should help with this. It's taken until the 8th and final season for somebody to catch Mercedes (without having to be overly flagrant wi...

Re: Will the FIA step up. A possible championship permintation.

Hamilton is also a very aggressive driver, but he rarely goes beyond that fuzzy grey area of acceptability. Actually his judgement of this in the heat of battle is one of his biggest assets. Hamilton also has done questionable yield or crash defences - particularly in the Rosberg era - he is just ve...

The difference is probably exaggerated by them both driving each other on, and full works support behind each driver. Both are currently driving superbly. Max has generally been brilliant all season, Lewis was down on his own lofty standards during the first 3rd of the season, but is performing near...

Re: 2021 Brazilian Grand Prix Race Thread

Tbh it seemed like a desperate attempt to keep a clearly faster car behind. Max was pretty defenseless against that Mercedes in the first sector. They've both went deep in defence and attack. I don't think there's anything particularly premeditated about it, rather than impulsive -and the big brakin...

Re: Mclarens season is unravelling in front of our eyes.

Its the closing races before a completely new formula, I'd take performance declines with a pinch of salt. McLaren will surely be happy with how this season's panned out. Should have won 2 races, been sniffing about fairly regularly the podium places, and a consistent middle points scoring car. Ricc...

Re: Mercedes vs Red Bull - 2021

The advantage the Merc had today was impressive.

Obviously Hamilton was stellar in his performance, but the car had a big pace advantage, so much do he might not even have needed the safety car to eventually have won the race (admittedly it would have made it a lot harder).

Was it "clearly" Ricciardo's fault? It's certainly not Bottas' fault, but... even before this incident, I'd already had a dim view of Bottas' spatial awareness... almost being oblivious of where the rear of his car is. Wasn't it Bottas who at two separate Monza meets moved back onto the racing line...

Tbh, the points table flatters Lewis. Agreed. The only caveat I'll add here is that it's possible at least 2 of the final 3 races will swing Merc's way, and maybe Brazil too depending on weather. My head says RB should cruise it, but form in Brazil can change by the lap with weather, Abu Dhabi is u...

Speed trap data is only a snap shot of an instant - typically near the end of the longest straight on the track. Without seeing all the straight line speed data over a whole straight, it's hard to conclude anything. For example, with the EBD the early 2010's Red Bull had amazing traction out of corn...

Has anyone seen Perez’s onboard for this? Gasly claimed he had nowhere to go but I’m not 100% sure that’s the case. In the absence of Perez’s onboard it’s hard to decide. He doesn't need to go to his left, he can also go backwards by lifting or braking to avoid the collision. As said, it's harsh as...

I think it's a harsh penalty given weather and the fact it was turn 1 of a grand prix. Judge the Red Bull today now they've had a chance to look at the data and set the car up to counter the issues.

The gusty wind seemed to be causing real balance issues on a fair few of the cars. Switching rapidly from under to oversteer. It's hard to build confidence when the cars doing that.

I don't think anyone ever has advocated Ricciardo as one of the truly elite. What he has been is a tier 1.5 driver - a driver who could win a world title in a capable car (if he didn't have an elite team mate). I rank him similar to Rosberg, capable of being elite on his day - but usually that half ...

Some of the fallout from this is OTT. Verstappen is more at fault, much like Hamilton was more at fault for Silverstone. The 3 place penalty was about right. The 10 second penalty was about right. There is no reason at all for the cars to be this big.
