Re: Hamilton/Verstappen British GP 2021 Collision Discussion

Yeah. The incident was a racing incident where the blame was tilted towards Hamilton - absolutely nothing more. Red Bull are whining far too much - they've been unlucky that them and their driver came off far worse but..... it is Formula 1 - these things will inevitably happen, next time it might b...

Re: Formula E

I tried to like Formula E, but I just can't.

Cars look clumsy around the toy tracks they usually race on and the racing often is clumsy as a result. As a series it just seems to lack drama, or X factor.

Re: Is Ricciardo done?

There hasn't really been any path for Ricciardo to ever find himself into a championship challenging seat. No path to Mercedes, or the 17/18 Ferrari. He could have stayed 8 seasons at Red Bull to finally get a championship capable car, but that is pretty unprecedented to be at a team that long that ...

Re: Is Ricciardo done?

Kubica arguably also never had a credible championship winning car, but his career was cut short. This is probably the 7th or 8th season Ricciardo has been considered a top driver - its unusual in the history of the sport for a top driver to go that long without ever getting a go in a championship c...

The lifeline for Ricciardo is a totally new car for next year because he's clearly struggling with the car presently, to say the greatest driver never to make a title run with the limitations that he has, I'm not so sure. Who do you think it would be, then? Bear in mind that mikeyg123 said he would...

Re: Forum verdict on the Hamilton/Verstappen collision

So just asking the question here. Corner speed aside & keeping in mind that at one point Hamilton was virtually level with Verstappen, by how much does this incident differ from Verstappens pass on Leclerc in Austria in 2019? Verstappen was slightly behind going into the corner the same as Hamilton...

Re: Forum verdict on the Hamilton/Verstappen collision

I love how anyone thinks at 190mph, in a car with very limited visability, and on the very edge of stability you can read over much into micro steering inputs and glances at the mirror, and process everything in a time period of no more than a few tenths of a second. It's not like reversing an estat...

Racing like that takes such a high cognitive load and decisions are made on a second by second basis. I doubt there was any calculation beyond deciding to not let up and putting his car in what ultimately was a bit of an ambitious position - it was ambitious but not entirely bone headed - although I...

Re: Forum verdict on the Hamilton/Verstappen collision

Given the high speed nature of the corner, it isn't somewhere that would usually be an overtaking opportunity regardless of space, being alongside and what - If you put a wheel up the inside there, you should be yielding if it clearly isn't going to stick or you're not winning the apex. Its just suc...

Straight line speed will be down to drag.

Being say 20bhp down, will be negligible at 180mph relative to running a bit more drag.

It is hard to speak as a Scot living in Scotland - as outside the inner city urban areas the black population of Scotland is an extreme minority (my home county at the last census was 98.7% white, I'd hazard the remaining 1.3% is mostly Oriental, Arabic, and Asian with very few Blacks). There is a clip in the Palmer analysis a page back. A modern F1 car covers an area of tarmac the same size as a Chevy Suburban - a gian...

There are always 2 cars in these incidents both have a responsibility to make space. By keeping a foot in, the outside car is - sometimes - effectively running th...

With Ocon one has to wonder what has gone wrong. As looking at it he just suddenly declined, as he was always in the top 10 and now since his new contract he cant even get out of Q1. I think what mikey is saying is in the past there was a bit more scope for a driver to make up for a slight weight or car disadvantage than today's formula. It's the law of diminishing returns the closer you get to theoretical maximum. The cars were far less perfect and seamless in the 60s, 70s, 80s...

There was less data available and the cars were less perfect. In 1985 you couldn't analyse a lap and car performance literally metre by metre, you couldn't have simulated data to see what the car is theoretically capable of. It was the driver doing that himself on feel alone, along with more work to...

Every driver will be different. It's as much psychological as it is physiological. Mid to late 30s seems to be a fairly accepted answer in the general sense. There is still a full physical connection on the main brakes. The foot generates the hydraulic force to stop the car. The term brake by wire is a bit misleading with brakes. I say about 30pts as gap is currently 4.

Baku robbed Max of +10pts and Imola Hamiltons good luck gained him "around" 15pts. The balance of luck at this point has cost Max 'about' 25pts.

However it could be worse for Max, Baku was very nearly a 35pt swing.

Re: Could flexi wings actually help the sport?

Making the cars smaller and the braking zones longer would go a long long way to solving the problems with F1 - along with obviously making the cars a bit easier to follow.

Both would help far more than flexiwings.
