Re: F1 Gossip/Rumour/Inside news Thread
Personally I think, Williams would be stupid to sack Latifi right now. If they are going to make an in-season change, they should wait until the Canadian Grand Prix. It would be a PR nightmare for them. De Vries kind of rubs me the wrong way. The way he tried to say the race was rigged at one of the...

Re: 2022 E Dell'Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix Race Thread
Mclaren did fix it and towards end of season it was up there as one of the quickest car's. That's not true, the MP4-24 was never better than mediocre according to the engineers that built it. It only won races due to Hamilton’s brilliance and the underperformance of both Red Bull and Brawn drivers....

Re: Should Alonso go?
People get to throw the toxic and failure words around with too much abandon. Alonso could very well have 5 WDCs now. One in 2007 if not for Lewis' (and only later his own) antics. Another one in 2010 if not for a botched team strategy in the last race. And the last one in 2012 if not for Grosjean ...

Re: I am calling it now Hamilton will win WDC 2018
Getting back to the title thread. Hamilton was 40 points down on Vettel this time last year. Vettel has made 2 errors so far this year with Hamilton suffering from Mechanical errors.... Now Hamilton leaves on his summer break with a 24 point gap advantage. There are some strong Mercedes tracks out ...

Re: James Key to join McLaren as technical director
Great signing for McLaren. Hopefully he will be able to thrive since the McLaren management structure is pathetic. I don't seen any major progress until 2021.

Re: 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thr
I said something like this earlier there is no way Mercedes is losing 0.5s to Ferrari on the straights. Also Ferrari being better than the Mercedes still holds on the twisty bits. Well there's enough people saying it about the power now that there's got to be something in it, I've no idea how much....

The thinner tyres will no longer be used this year as far as I know. Barcelona, Paul Ricard and Silverstone were the venues those tyres used.Mort Canard wrote:Are these the thinner tread tires or the thicker?

Re: 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thr
Vettel must win in Hungary, and hope that at least one of the Red Bulls finish ahead of him if he wants to win the championship. That's obviously not true, if Ferrari came back after the summer break with a beast of an upgrade he could afford to DNF in Hungary with Hamilton winning. There's 17 poin...

Re: Force India to file for controlled bankruptcy soon?
Regarding Force India, this has to be the most Duuuh! Moves in professional sports in that Mallya and Roy's denial over what they owe people has seen them stand firm on a higher asking price, that anyone who is interested in acquiring the team exercising any bit of common sense would laugh at and w...

Re: 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thr
I used to rate Hamilton and Vettel as equal in the rain, possibly even Vettel ahead because Button was close to Lewis in those conditions but on reflection Jenson is one of the greatest of all time in mixed conditions and decision making on when to change tyres and won lots of races through this wh...

Re: 2018 German Grand Prix Race Thread
. I don't think Hamilton should even have got a reprimand, HOWEVER, how is the fact that the incident happened under the safety car a "mitigating factor" ? Surely under a safety car means that everyone should be concentrating on driving very carefully and fully in accordance with the rules ????? Ho...

Re: "Sergio Marchionne replaced as FIAT Chrysler CEO" -BBC
I am particularly worried as the wording, "health worsened in the last couple of hours" (not weeks or even days), does not sound promising at all. Shoulder surgery should be quite routine. I am no doctor, but two things might have. 1. Complications during or after the surgery. 2. Or Segio has a muc...

Re: 2018 German Grand Prix Race Thread
What will Mercedes do? starting 14th is pretty risky. I would not be surprised if they replace the gearbox and start at the back. It all depends on how bad the gearbox and PU suffered due to the bumps and the hydraulic leaks.

His health worsened in recent days after he suffered complications from surgery on his right shoulder. Mr Marchionne, 66, has led the combi...

Re: Eric Boullier leaves mclaren
Apparently some (black) test wings and bargeboards made from non racing material were tested during the Austrian GP that finally delivered the correct numbers so the upgrades will be flowing again from Hungary. At least that's what AMuS reckoned through a source so hopefully they found the issue. I...

Re: Do Ferrari have an advantage at the starts?
Ferrari have had great starts for pretty much this decade. Alonso used to have great starts. Vettel and Kimi started third and fourth in Hungary 2015, and Australia 2016 are indications of great starts. Vettel in Canada 2016 was another. Alonso's had great starts wherever he's been, Renault and McH...

Re: The Punishment Due?
For the bold part, ok I got you. I do understand what you are on about, I just can't see how this would be implemented. The last idea, the 2-3 points awarded in case of a DNF because of someone else is not a bad idea in itself. The problem I can see with that is the unpredictability of the race. A ...

Re: 2018 British Grand Prix Race Thread
i think Hamilton and Mercedes opened a can of worms here. What happens if Hamilto and Bottas take out the Ferraris resulting in a DNF? I bet you Hamilton and their fans would go into hiding because their "interesting tactics" quote would be used against them.

Re: Robert Kubica confirms he signed Ferrari deal for 2012
Was this not the same year Hulk had a contract that was awaiting a signature from Ferrari? Don't think it would have been for 2012 since Hulkenburg did not race in 2011 and don't think Ferrari would have put a driver who was out of the sport for a year. Either it was for 2013, before Massa had an u...

Re: Robert Kubica confirms he signed Ferrari deal for 2012
Kubica I think was overrated. Heidfeld beat him in the two of the three seasons they raced together. Kubica I think would have challenged Alonso in 2012 and helped take points off of Alonso especially since he struggled in qualifying near the end of 2012.

Re: 2018 British Grand Prix Race Thread
I think Vettel's win is a huge momentum shift in the championship battle for two reasons. Vettel has historically never done well at Silverstone, and first time he won at the new layout (He won in 2009 in the old layout). Also he won, in Mercedes' and Hamilton's backyard, which is a huge psychologic...
