Re: Silly Season 2020!

Are people really seriously entertaining the possibility of Kimi having a third career at Ferrari? They shouldn't be, he serves a far better role at Alfa Romeo benchmarking Ferrari's young drivers. At the moment Giovinazzi is falling a little short of stepping up to be a Ferrari driver. At best he ...

Re: Vettel and his Ferrari drive

What is Vettel's motivation though ? If it's money he will carry on where ever he gets the most money. You are all assuming he's in it for the wins and glory. I actually think he's a no thrills guy who just loves to race, win or not.

Re: Vettel and his Ferrari drive

Alonso is not done just laying dormant like a vampire waiting for a competitive car to fall into his lap ;). Alonso is the only modern driver who I would favour winning WDCs in his 40s like Fangio.

Would Red Bull actually want him back though. Actually he has more chance at Mercedes, he is German after all and their downforce is pretty solid ;). Mercedes or a junior team who throw the most money at him.

Vettel is going downhill. Has he in his mind decided to retire at the end of this year? I expected Vettel to reasonably comfortably beat Leclerc this year. I don't think that now. Bring back Alonso. Indeed, I wouldn't have given Vettel another big 3-year contract in the first place at least not with options, he's done nothing at Ferrari to deserve such a reward. Re: Vettel and his Ferrari drive

No, because it would be expensive to buy him out and get an expensive replacement. Low downforce cars just don't suit him so he might be better next year if Ferrari add more downforce especially to the rear, notice he's always spinning off from the rears giving out. 2021 is his crunch year, if he do...

I'm not writing Vettel off after one poor race. Leclerc has been impressive and it certainly looks like he's got what it takes, so I definitely see him as a possibility. But just as I didn't write Hamilton off after Bottas beat him in Australia, I'm not writing Vettel off because Leclerc beat him h...

Re: Unpopular opinions (2019)

Schumacher had to overcome a lot of fast Newey cars and I suppose Massa and Rosberg were his most modern teammates and in the twilight of his career long past his youthful peak he did well against an almost WDC and a WDC who beat Hamilton to get it.

Actually thinking further if Leclerc beats Vettel in the next two seasons and they don't find another fast young driver why not Alonso again when Vettel's contract is up as he appears a free agent these days ? He would be no older than Raikonnen is now and the latter is still quick.

I think the consensus on this forum last year was that Vettel's mistakes and form played a big part in the result as the two cars were pretty evenly matched through the season. Should be exciting as tyre wear/compatibility will probably play the major role in victory as Ferrari/Mercedes are very close. I wouldn't even rule out Verstappen or Magnusson to spring a surprise over the whole distance. Odds though are on Leclerc to start a winning streak.

Giovinazzi has never looked special. Sure give him this season but Ferrari should have another youngster ready for next year to test against the tried and tested Kimi benchmark in Alfa Romeo. His slidey driving in Australia was dire so it's just not lack of speed.

What I find annoying is when Ferrari and Red Bull was dominating, FIA tried every trick in the book to slow them down. It's a judgement call, what if one of the cars ahead had an off but Ferrari had no car to take advantage because both had taken an extra pit stop ? Yes. Pit Vettel and get Leclerc to let him pass at the end. So Leclerc himself not allowed to get fastest lap, just there to be a doormat for Vettel? The team would have been better served with him staying out on his hard tyres to pressure the cars ahead on their fading mediums. Vettel was really d...

My conclusions from Australia 2019. 1) This track is always an outlier and never a good judge for the rest of the season so Red Bull/Ferrari fans do not get too disheartened. 2) Yet again this season how comfortable a car/driver is with the Pirellis and the associated wear performance will determine...

Is it too early to call 2019? I have no inclination to believe anything other than another Hamilton title. One of Hamilton/Vettel/Leclerc/Verstappen. Ferrari will have two fast drivers of complementary temperaments i.e. if one screws up due to a brain fade the other should capitalise and the Honda ...

It's appropriate that he has equalled Fangio's record as he is at least as important in F1 history as him. Pressure. He just has to mature a bit more over the off-season, take stock of the whole season like Lewis did after 2011 and genuinely think where he could have made better decisions and come back better. His judgement has always lagged his pace, time to change that now.
