Re: The Official Fernando Alonso thread
It proved that a considerably older Hamilton was considerably better than Verstappen and every other young buck in F1. His ability to drive on the limit for the entirety of a race and hitting such late braking points, rarely putting a wrong wheel anywhere, it was one of the finest string of perform...

Looping back? Masi demonstrated in 2020 Eifel GP, that he perfectly understands that all lapped cars must unlap themselves. Indeed he did. And he demonstrated his perfect understanding again at Abu Dhabi 2021. I have already explained more than once the precise difference between the two cases, but...

Yes they perhaps got fortunate in that respect with Rosberg but Wolff did go on record saying the team felt that with a dominant car they needed to put on a show and we got some in fighting and two drivers falling out big time. 2019 and 2020 were not quite the same, in 2019 Ferrari had the most pol...

Well the last 6 races of 2021, including Abu Dhabi say otherwise, as did yesterday. What exactly do you think those races proved? To me they proved two things I already knew. Hamilton is a better driver than a younger Bottas, and Alonso is a better driver than a younger Stroll. They don't prove tha...

Nothing is exactly the same as anything else. Both in 2019 and 2020 Hamilton received no challenge for the title from either inside his team or out of it. That's exactly what we expect to see this season. Merc ended up in a position in 2014 where they had a dominant car and two fairly matched drive...

Re: 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix Race Thread
Well, last year in Barcelona, Perez got three TO's to benefit Verstappen (two times to let him pass, one time not to attack him when Perez was clearly quicker). Verstappen was behind because of his own driving mistake. And at the time of the race, Perez was close in the points standings. My conclus...

We can't be saying that 2019 was predictable race to race starting with qualifying, that's what we could be looking at this year. I'm just questioning the belief that it's in Red Bull's best interests for Perez to challenge Verstappen. F1 is about who comes out on top on Sunday, which was predictab...

Indeed, at least 2014-2016 we had domination but excitement with inter team rivalry. Obviously Perez wouldn't be allowed to compete with Max, not they he would have a chance anyway as he has been recruited specifically because he doesn't have the talent to compete with him. This will be the most bo...

Alonso was the whole show.
Gasly recovered well.
But for the sake of forum peace, I'll rephrase "in a league of his own" to "pretty much perfect when it counted" (being Q3 and race day).

Schumacher is a good driver, but as many people have said, he's never had a WDC as his team mate, and after coming back from retirement, and once paired with Rosberg, he lost. He's also had a few dubious moments like parking his car, ramming into others, and so on. If you ask me, I would rate Senna...

What infringements? Hamilton has hardly been an angel during safety car periods and has been fairly described as a little erratic before. Well, Alonso did have the measure of Ocon this past weekend and this week he has come out to say he'll probably be there for at least 2-3 more years. It's very disingenuous to think Perez batters Bottas in both qualifying and the race whilst Bottas is in a dominant car. This is something we know doesn't happen. Hamilton was up there in Imola but Bottas was driving in tenth. Does Bottas' abysmal performance prove that the Mercedes wasn't up there...

Don't get me wrong, I think that the first two races showed promise for the new regs, because the cars could follow more closely, but the races themselves were not too different from previous races at those circuits. I'd also follow in Battle Far's opinion if her FREC season was an outlier in a series of high-profile performanes, but it's simply not. Id agree max race pace was poor in the final race, govne how close perez was and how far back bottas was. It's not even in doubt that Max ended 2021 in a much poorer way than most his season went about. How? What I saw was him trying everything he could against a car that had gotten simply too fast. He still maximized whatever was on offer and he still left Perez behind by quite a bit. If the whole bas...

Dominant cars get 1-2's in quali not beaten to Pole. I've seen cars score dominant poles then fall away on Sunday.
