Re: 2018 Austrian Grand Prix Race Thread

What I get from that video is that Hamilton gets a pretty OK exit from the last turn so Vettel doesn't get a look in, but then misses the T1 apex by some distance - wonder if that wasn't at least as much of a factor in getting overtaken as the hold-up from Ricciardo. Who knows if he had nailed T1 th...

Re: Mercedes v Ferrari v Red Bull - 2018 edition

Some good points above :)

Adapted the sheet, see below:
- Verstappen Canada: 25 > 10
- Verstappen Bahrain: 0 > 15
- Verstappen Australia: 8 > 10

Valid point about Monaco, might as well have been 18.

Maybe watch it whilst running and not the stills. Who do you think posted the YouTube clip? Man I have no idea what's so hard about it. Well, you can't really account for a driver being off form but you can factor out mistakes and if you do Verstappen has a similar point score to Vettel and Hamilton. I don't think you can say this. Being off form and making mistakes are two different kinds of a driver not making use of his material...

possibly even Bahrain were all winnable for Red Bull. Horner said Ricciardo would have won that race if he didn't retire. Sure Horner did. Even so, why mention Bahrain? Raikkonen: Tough(ish) choice #2. Raikkonen had a punchy start (perhaps too much so) but Seb went backwards a couple of places. I agree that there aren't many grounds for giving it to Kimi: he qualified slower and but for his errors at the beginning may likely have won the race. I am curious as to why the Porsche 956 record has stood since 1983? Surely there have been many cars capable of beating that record over the past 35 years. 1983 was apparently the last time the WEC raced there. I assume they stopped for the same reason F1 did, safety. For reference the fastest F1 t...

Ricciardo’s bargaining power has halved after this drive from Verstappen today. It’s becoming increasingly obvious that Max is consistently the faster driver when he doesn’t crash out. I keep wondering what the results would be if Haas had Hulkenberg and Sainz jr. in the cars. I think Red Bull would be very nervous if not outright afraid of the 'Muricans. Disagree - it's between Vettel and Hamilton. Red Bull can challenge now and then but a sustained challenge until the end of the season, I don't think so. They aren't contenders often enough. Verstappen would need things to fall his way. I'm not suggesting his current attitude is wrong. Given the ci...

Yes, you may be right. In his earlier career Hamilton did a lot of charging around for little result. We've seen it happen with Max this year too. Charging hard in F1 is a double-edged sword. With experience, you learn that the DNFs hurt you a lot more than a few spectacular passes help you. When y...

It couldn't be any closer at this point. The cars have been pretty much equally good over the past 9 races, while Hamilton and Vettel are pretty comparable as well.
