Re: EU to investigate F1

You've quoted the wrong post but i'm guessing that was aimed at me. There is no blame to be apportioned here, Ferrari did what is best for Ferrari, as is their right to do so. Pretty sure it was Ferrari who folded first when the threat of the breakaway series was on, and it was Ferrari and Red Bull...

Re: EU to investigate F1

Of course it takes money to advance... a lot of it, just as the established teams spend. The point is that every team as they come into F1 knows it is going to take BIG money just to play, much less win. They knew it coming in... Sauber should have known back in 1993 that future teams like Red Bull...

Re: EU to investigate F1

I'm still amused that anyone seriously thinks that any of these payments are actually for 'brand power' or time spent in F1 and not just kickbacks from the ringmaster so the teams break ranks with each other and dont negotiate payments as a collective (something that would probably net them all rat...

Maybe if the smaller teams were given a chance to become larger they could attract a bigger following. How is it that Ferrari are the villians of this piece, when Merc didn't offer to supply anything? What's to stop Ferrari just saying 'No'as well. How is that any different to Merc saying no? And why aren't Merc being held up as chickens, they aren't doing anything to help the situation. If RB do ex...

Gutierrez (and Vergne for that matter) have both had their chance in F1, and while they're certainly young enough to still prove they deserve a place on the grid, I just can't imagine that place ever being in the Ferrari race team, within Ferrari I would have thought their prospects would be purely...

Re: EU to investigate F1

Might be going against the flow but I'm not sure what business it is of the EU, tbh. I don't see why they should have any say in how the sport is run? Not a fan of this latest development. That said I do think a more equitable revenue split is desirable. But I don't think complete equality is the a...

So much for Arrivabene's beating of the chest saying that Ferrari do not fear the competition unlike Mercedes and I wonder if their star driver Vettel will get any flack for this like Hamilton did? Allocation of funds to the teams is a big one for me. On the engine front I'd also like to add that promoting F1 as a sport that is developing technology for the future of the auto industry, and then instituting rules to freeze hybrid development , constitutes one of the most oxymoronic phases in F...

Sadly, I think Astoria is echoing what many are feeling. Even as we read through this thread, we see that most responses are in agreement with many of his points. And not all of them are from "old farts" waxing nostalgic. F1 is in dire need of reassessment as to what it is, what it wants to be, and...

Surely 'lower budget teams' have always exited F1 over the years? If you only read older commenters you'd think the series was on it's deathbed, playing to lower crowds than even IndyCar, the attendance and great atmosphere in Montreal rubbishes these doom and gloom prophecies. It feels these days ...

I'm going to offer counterpoints where possible: 1 - Testing just leaves us with the richest teams developing, and wrecks the chances of season-long upsets like Force India nearly beating McLaren. 2 - Ditto. Wind tunnels still cost money, if less than actually testing a car on a track. 3 - Agreed. ...

The biggest thing wrong with the money side in my opinion is that Ferrari get a load of money just because they are Ferrari, so even if they have a terrible season and finish bottom they still earn more money than quite a few of the other teams put together, how is that fair? as far as customers able to modify software settings on the engine delivered by the manufacturer goes I would argue that this simply is not possible.
