Re: Vettel / Verstappen / Raikkonen Clash! Who to blame?
I wonder why so many people are blaming Vettel for this incident. He was clearly ahead and not involved in the initial contact. Both Ferrari's were in front of Verstappen and he should have backed out. But of course he didn't do that, because he never does. Which is why, in spite of his obvious spee...

Bottas was much faster than Massa I believe, at least from summer 2015 onwards. You're contradicting your own argument here. According to 'the model' the gap should have been identical throughout their three seasons together. You average it out, the more years the better. I get that, but it's still...

Re: Unpopular opinions
When Bottas paired with Hamilton, the model was right. No it wasn't. If I understand 'the model' correctly, the reasoning would be: Hamilton and Alonso are equally fast, Alonso was way faster than Massa, but Bottas was only slightly faster than Massa. Therefore according to 'the model' Bottas shoul...

Re: Unpopular opinions
A probably really unpopular opinion: Rosberg was faster than Hamilton. He just had other deficits because of which he couldn't really compete with Hamilton, mainly psychological. I think this because in 2015, when the WDC was decided and the pressure was off, Rosberg was completely untouchable. But ...

Once you factor out a drivers debut and retirement seasons then it is pretty accurate the vast majority of the time. I beg to differ, for reasons stated in my previous post. Drivers aren't static in performance throughout their careers. And you do realize that by your statement, Hamilton would be m...

Mansell was amazing. He may have come across as somewhat of an unpleasant and whining a person, but if I were to make a list of the 10 best overtakes I've seen in almost 40 years of watching F1, I think half of them would be Mansell's.KingVoid wrote:I rated Mansell higher at wheel to wheel combat

Re: Who will end their career with the most wins?
Yep, it's crazy how drivers only accumulate lots of wins and poles when they're in the best car. It almost makes you think those stats aren't a good way to evaluate the respective ability of drivers at all! There's another aspect to this that favours modern-day drivers: the huge increase in reliabi...

Re: Who will end their career with the most wins?
As fun as these predictions are, most of them most likely aren't going to come true. Things usually go differently than people would assume.
I remember in the late '70s, most people assumed Stewart's 27 wins were never going to beaten . . .

Ricciardo is not so much better than Vettel, as 2014 seemed to show. Because if he was, it would throw the whole driver status dynamic out of whack. Comparing drivers with long-term teammates is the most reliable way we have of seeing where two drivers stand. For example, Alonso used to be less tha...

What Massa did was naughty Maybe, but it was good to see someone giving that spoiled little brat a piece of his own medicine. It probably won't do any good, though. It's clear Verstappen doesn't learn from his mistakes, probably because he doesn't recognize them as mistakes. That's why after two an...

Women drivers need more opportunities to enter F1 No they don't. Women have plenty opportunity; if we want women in F1 more girls need to start karting. Here's a few of mine: - the driver who wins the WDC more often than not isn't the one who most deserves it - Massa is underrated - stats are meaningless, for two reasons: 1) results are largely machinery-dependant; Hamilton's stats for example - and this is an example, not a dig at Hamilton - are sk...

The OP confuses Alonso's cars' 'natural position' with Alonso's public statements about his cars. Calling the 2012 Ferrari the 4th best car is beyond ridiculous. If you make the massive assumption that Raikkonen was as good as Alonso in 2012 then you could make a case for it being 3rd best. I see t...

I bet what he did with Vettel at Silverstone a driver like Maldonaldo would have turned in and not let him run him wide. It was Vettel who ran Verstappen wide first. Max is rough sometimes, but who cares. It's fun to watch someone actually defend against a Ferrari or trying an overtake on a Merc. If it isn't fair the stewards are standing by to slay him. I don't hold a grudge to any driver in F1. It feels like you have one with Max. It is possible of course that you like another driver better but it cloud your judgement. Aside from Singapore maybe, Mercedes should easily win the remaining races. Even more so because Ferrari also has had a pattern the past years of lagging behind in development. Maybe the 2017 cars don't help but I think it's more that it's just a bad track. Like Monaco without the scenery. It has always been near-impossible to overtake here. I remember in 1990 Senna was all over Boutsen's gearbox for the entire race and didn't manage to pass him.
