Re: Yay! Renault Are Back
It's going to be odd seeing a Renault-Mercedes branded car. I wonder if they are in the process of negotiating with Mercedes to debrand the PU, like Sauber-Petronas did with Ferrari back in the late 90's early 2000's

Re: Will Alonso get fed up with the underperforming Mclaren?
Alonso won't get fed up this year with an under-performing McLaren as long as there's good progress being made through the season. His sights are set on next year so if the car isn't worthy of challenging for a title in 2016 then I strongly believe he'll get fed up and quickly. If the McLaren isnt ...

I don't think Alonso cares about finishing 3rd in the WDC. If Vettel finishes 3rd in the WDC this year but Alonso wins it in 2016 then Feranando hasmade the right choice. I just dont see it happening that soon. McLaren has struggled for the last 4 seasons, even with the class leading engine in 2014...

I support it, as it brings another facet to strategy. Combined with being able to choose compounds I think it will work well.
Light fuel, soft tyres go all out
Heavier fuel, medium tyres, go for a longer stint
Full fuel, hard tyres, go long into then soft tyre run to the end.

First I want to say that I am a fan of Fernando, but his enthusiasm for Honda will wane if they continue to struggle. He may not regret leaving Ferrari right now, but if McLaren's struggles continue into next season, I believe his regrets will turn elsewhere. If you were to ask any driver, "where wo...

I'd like to see some evidence of this supposed $100m bonus Ferrari gets. I see your point, but fact of the matter is that the Indy 500 was part of the championship regardless of if the teams "officially" participated or not. The stats are calculated as such.

Re: Ferrari 2014 - Worst season for the scuderia since 1980?
The sport is cyclical. Teams go through phases of competing for the championship. Some cycles last longer than others, eg. Ferrari 99-2004 & RedBull 2009-2013. Perhaps its Mercedes time for a multiple year run at the WCC/WDC
Ferrari's time will come again, hopefully sooner than later.

I think people are reading waaaay to much into this test. Not a single team was running at full rev's, nor do I think any were pushing yet. Having said that, Mercedes and Ferrari seem to be a step ahead of Renault. The next test will reveal much more, but the final test will really show who's where.

I actually think this is a smart move for ANY team. Putting their 2014 powerplant into a heavy car that will demand a lot more endurance from the motor to lug it around a track. Will also give them very good baseline fuel consumption numbers, as well as torturing the gearbox.
