The teams are assets in themselves now. Gone are the days they were a bottomless money pit. The Mercedes F1 team costs Mercedes nothing.

The pressure of "race on Sunday, sell on Monday" is no more.
Do you have figures to prove that?

I see the point that you are making about the manufacturers, but what about Red Bull? For Ferrari and Aston Martin (and probably also Mercedes with the AMG brand), they will continue to sell luxury sports cars even when these have gone all-electric. Williams and Alpine are (or were?) genuine Formul...

If I was able to do anything to solve it I would reduce the size of the teams massively. Say something like a total budget of $100 per season and allow as many teams to turn up who could build a car within the rules. Re introduce pre qualifying if we have enough teams to allow us to do so. I assume...

Well another tedious race gets 2024 - almost certainly another tedious season, underway. I see that Sky is no longer advertising its F1 coverage by the racing, but by the travel opportunities! The current 800kg behemoths are dull to watch, never break down, can't pass each other without aero help, c...

Re: 2024 F1 Pre-Season Testing Thread

I don't think it rewards mediocrity. The ballast/time adjustments would be so small that no team could be sure of gaining any places, just time relative to those in front. So Red Bull would probably still win, just not by as much. Surely engineers know precisely how much lap-time extra ballast would...

I think it totally depends on what you are looking in the sport. For me the engineering element is as important as the driver’s performance. I agree though, if Red Bull are dominant in the first third of the season, I expect there to be some regulation changes for 2025 to try and cut the advantage. They've won 32 of the last 34 races. I imagine Liberty, who love the 'show', are very concerned about that behind closed doors. No idea what...

Surely Alonso is too old for Merc to think about him for 2025 and beyond. Yes he's still near his best, but I'd be amazed if can stay there for much longer. Merc tend to think long term, and with Russell bedded in I think it may be whichever of the Mclaren duo Norris/Piastri does best this year who ...

Am I missing something, or have you limited the results to only one year for each team? It sounds like a very, very long Saturday. And given a few unforeseen disagreements with the walls (in the street tracks), a lot of extra work for the engineers and mechanics. Get rid of Fridays

Another daft gimmick on tyres has been tried in Hungary, in the name of cost-saving. Given the need to stop Saturday being 'a bit dull', the adoption of sprints has come in. To help both problems, why not try the 2-day GP? Friday is axed, Saturday has P1, P2 and quali; Sunday the race. Huge amounts ...

So some very stupid decisions by the race stewards. Why call a red flag 4 laps from the end? To avoid the anticlimax of finishing under safety car. First it must be said that after big rule changes the number of teams who 'get it right' always reduces.
