Re: The future of Alonso

Fernando was pretty positive about every aspect of the McLaren aside from Honda. I genuinely wonder if, should Honda fail to make any real progress through the early part of 2017, we might hear stories about how Alonso has told McLaren he's only willing to stay at the team beyond this year if they ...

At this rate McLaren are going to start the season nowhere near the points and fighting for 16th/17th position, when they actually get to finish, and at best move into the points towards the end of the season. Fully expect Alonso to retire from F1 soon. I suspect the same Never been a fan of the ma...

I’ve gone for Ric. I've got a soft spot for Jenson and Filipe baby too. Not keen on Hamilton’s off-track antics but I respect his skills as a driver. With Ric, I think he’s the best out there.

Rosberg made a mess of a championchip that could have been so much more easily won by him. Yes, Lewis stole the momentum off Nico mid season, particularly in Germany I felt his season was over. Go back to brazil 2014 and see how lewis drove when he didnt have to win the race to win the wdc. He absolutely went for it, almost binned the car in the process. But it was nice to know that he was still going for the race win. And i have to think rosberg, at those final races of 2016, was going f...

Once both drivers sorted there starts, it reverted back to first to turn one wins the race which was usually the pole man 2014-2015 and last 5-6 races of 2016. The races were decided on Saturday like they always used to be. In the last 40 races the Mercedes ahead at turn 1 finished behind his team ...

Re: Rosberg just went up in my opinion - thanks to Nigel Man

I used the examples above to counter the point that Rosberg some how improved, he didn't. That's pretty clear and not really something anybody disagrees with. Well he did improve on starts relative to Hamilton. Maybe the W07 was harder to get off the line than the Mercs before and Nico did a really...

Re: Rosberg just went up in my opinion - thanks to Nigel Man

Just a small nit-pick: I don't think it was ever declared legal, but it was decided to take no further action. It's a small but significant detail. I'm not convinced the end result would have changed, but I'm sure Rosberg would have approached the races differently had he not simply had to play for...

That would just add to the mountain of conjecture. I'm OK with what actually happened, so I don't feel a need to imagine other outcomes. That's fair enough. But the race being decided by turn 1 isn't conjecture. I think it was Lamo who once posted some startling stats- that after turn 1 the trailin...

Didn't Hamilton say that he wasn't too keen to drive in the wet today? He said I'll put some excuse of a leg cramp & let Bottas take the car out in the noon session. Arguably, Bottas needs more practice in the wet than Hamilton. Yet it doesn't explain why they didn't just run the Finn in the mornin...

. He has said and done some things when he was still racing that was cringeworthy, but which driver hasn't? Re: F1.com interview with Juan Pablo Montoya

The observation by Zoue that Alonso had fewer dips in his performance than Hamilton (or Vettel), seems accuirate to me. Alonso would not have had the messy (4 collisions) off-form season Hamilton had in 2011. In 2016 Alonso would have worked as hard as Rosberg did and got his starts right. I think ...

And his comments about it being easy to look good in the best car, he seems to have completely blanked Hamilton’s career in the less dominant, and sometimes average McLarens where he not only beat/matched Alonso, but proved his worth. So here's a recent article where Lewis says he doesn't mind who he races against, but urges the team not to pick a driver where they would create an "arch-rivalry." Personally, i couldn't decide between Ric and Hamilton for top honour. Both were equally "deserving" imo.

But this poll is done after each race, it's contemporary, so it's done while events are still fresh in the mind. More seem to participate too. Therefore, perhaps this poll is more reflective.
