Re: New points system
The 9-6-4-3-2-1 system also included dropped rounds, normally a season was 16 rounds but only 11 rounds counted, they decided that all the rounds should count and then added an extra point for a win emphasising the importance of winning races. I'd luckily forgotten about the dropped rounds. But loo...

Re: Official Valtteri Bottas Thread
Bottas seems in good form at the moment. I expect his future career depends on what Sainz does more than anything else. If he leaves Audi will he have an opportunity at Haas or Williams? He would be an upgrade on Magnussen or Sargeant. Haas could be a shout but wouldn’t be surprised if they stick w...

Re: New points system
Would having points for everyone not better reflect the performance of the teams in the bottom half of the grid? One wild race and big result for someone who doesn’t really score points can massively swing the constructors championship, especially when there are a few teams not really scoring points...

New points system
F1 are discussing changing the points system for next season. The Race understands that the top 12 finishers would receive points. The top seven would receive them as they do now (25-18-15-12-10-8-6) and then eight downwards would receive 5-4-3-2-1. Here's what writers at The Race think: https://www...

What’s going on here then? It was as good as even last season (with Gasly on a slight edge on points) and most expected Gasly to kick on and beat Ocon this season. But it’s currently 5-0 to Ocon in qualifying (5-1 if you include sprints). Ocon has been the better driver in races too.

Seems to have been some heavy rain in Shanghai - just seen a video of Bottas cycling around the circuit in it.
Has the track been resurfaced since 2019? Could be an interesting weekend we’ve had recent resurfacing and some big rain.

Leclerc has shown in '22 that he can be a serious title contender if the car is good enough. This is absolutely true. It seems that the more competitive the car the better Leclerc is. My initial reaction to this was that I agree as the evidence from his/Sainz partnership does tend to agree with thi...

I think there was a bit of criticism from drivers about this being a sprint weekend with F1 not having raced here for five years. Hopefully everything is fine and we don't have another Qatar.

I agree, but the trouble is we don’t know all the relevant parameters. We see leaders regularly saving tyres and engines when out in front. Also I think that Räikkönen really enjoyed driving fastest laps, so that itself could influence who collects them. I don't believe that engines and tyres neede...

Re: Is Hamilton ruining Max’s legacy?
The relevance of the fastest lap is completely debatable, there is literally nothing to be gained except some on track time if you are chasing another driver. Räikkönen recorded 10 fastest laps and Heidfeld 2 fastest laps, does it really mean anything? It does mean something, if you know all the re...
