Re: Watched the Mario Andretti TV show, how is he viewed as a
Now you're talking about a subject that is near and dear to my heart. Mario IS the greatest racing driver of all time. Not in F1, not Indy, CART, Stock Cars, Sprints or any other discipline solely, but collectively, he is the most successful in all those disciplines combined. In CART/INDY he was hi...

Re: Watched the Mario Andretti TV show, how is he viewed as a
Excellent driver, top class 1976-1978. Had about three strong years in F1 which for the time was more than enough. His 1978 year was dominating and that's where he sealed his reputation. The next 1979 was a backwards year as Lotus made a big miscalculation with their car. The 1980 year literally ki...

Re: Watched the Mario Andretti TV show, how is he viewed as a
Anyway he is "literally" one of the best among the very best (sharing the top of my own list of best, at least), and certainly the most complete driver, in an era of great complete racing drivers. He simply loved driving and racing. Top class 76/78... That's short ! Well, he was top class already i...

Watched the Mario Andretti TV show, how is he viewed as an F1
Driver in the F1 community? I know he really was raised more racing Sprint cars, then stock cars, then Indycar and then he went back and forth between Indycar and F1 (has an F1 championship). After doing a lot of research it looks like Even when he wasn't winning championships, he was winning races ...

Make the cars shorter!! can you believe that they are a full 4 feet longer than Sennas Mc? Longer than a Ford F150 full size truck!!

Re: 2019 Monaco Grand Prix Race Thread
....it isn't RBR fault that they wanted to double stack, thats their problem. If they didn't do that, there wouldn't have been an issue. It is also interesting that Max came out and was actually ahead of Bottas when they made contact. In many series, the person who comes out in the lead gets priori...

Re: 2019 Monaco Grand Prix Race Thread
Interesting info that holding up people behind you can give you a penalty. I know everyone wants to blame Max because of the contact, but I wonder if RBR looked at that rule to at least give him less of a penalty (5 seconds). The whole time I really felt like Merc has some responsibility in all of i...

I don't know why you would call it a mythical triple crown when it even has its own Wikipedia page so it's not like it's something Alonso has made up or "created for himself." And I agree that it would probably not be quite as important to him if he was in a Mercedes F1 car but he's not so he has t...

Re: 2019 Monaco Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
I think there's reason to believe the Mercedes was a handful in Barcelona. Watching the car there, it was twitchy and unsettled even on their quick laps. I haven't seen the same from it in Monaco, however. sometimes that is good, for a car that is so long. They say that they have worked a lot on lo...

Re: 2019 Monaco Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
I know FP sessions mean very little but what a job by Albon! Albon is really embarrassing Kvyat. For me, he should be Max's teammate next year. Not sure it will happen but I'd love to see it. Gasly better get a move on it. He needs to be <.2-.4 within Max's time (at most). RBR is giving up too many...

Re: 2019 Monaco Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Looks like Max was much slower in FP2, but on closer inspection it appears that he only got in 16 laps, so a much smaller sample size. Does anyone know if he crashed or something wrong with the car? Wow, and Charles is way off this session, with lots of laps and tires. Seems like if we took away the...

Re: Indy500
I am kind of wondering what Alonso's next move is going to be and where he and McLaren stand. Will he come back to indy, or was that just an idea when he had a top running car (at Andretti) and now that it looks like its going to take much more work, will he just forget about it? If he and McLaren s...

yep, this year at least the chevy is slightly quicker at indy, but on road courses the honda is better, puts the power down quicker. The fact that McLaren was using the Chevy even makes it more odd. On road courses and street courses I think Alonso could do better even if he is in a subpar car, beca...

As an Alonso fan, I such mixed emotions about this. I have felt all along that he would benefit from running the whole or most of the series. Montoya and DeFerrin made mention of this a couple of years ago. And while some might argue that it wouldn't help with indy because the aero is different, id ...

O'Ward (indy driver) named to Red Bull Jr team,Ferrari going
Interesting information on a couple areas related to Indycar and F1. Pat O'Ward named to Red Bull Jr team is big. Its obvious that Red Bull realizes that they are in a pickle if they need a driver to fill one of the 4 spots at RBR, and TR. Dan Ticktum (sp?) isn't exactly on the fast track to getting...

As for Bourdias not doing well in F1, he was drafted into a team that was mediocre at best and he didn’t feel comfortable there and it showed. Back when I watched Champcar, I was convinced Sebastian Bourdais could easily take on any F1 driver. But when he finally made it over to F1, he was easily outclassed by his team mates. I also saw average F1 drivers such as Sato and Doornbos become regular race-winners. At the time, in my mind, any ...

Ill be totally honest, ever since I was a kid up until a few years ago (Im in my 40s) I always believed that the very best driver in the world was the current F1 champion. It wasn't until I started to use some critical thinking skills before I started to realize that in F1 the "formula" is to make t...

do you really have to hire a "big name" to be productive? Seems like Williams has hired big names and failed, Renault has hired big names and look where they are (and this year hasn't been anything to brag about either). Frankly, outside of AMG and Ferrari, they are the class of the field, I guess o...

hey, you can give ever excuse in the world. The fact is that Honda was rushed into F1 a season early.
