Re: The 2016 Feeder Series Thread

Looks to me like they are going 'all-in' on the Eurocup. 10 rounds next year, mostly on F1 circuits. Perhaps the remaining rounds and a few duplicates may constitute an NEC. Not sure what the future holds for the World Series by Renault, but for the RS01 they want the current teams to run them in ot...

Rustiyesti, has Dr Phillips published his comparisons yet? Sorry for the delayed response, Patrick. Not yet, his last articles were on pre-season testing. His website is: http://www.f1metrics.wordpress.com, if I haven't mentioned it before. https://f1metrics.wordpress.com/2016/10/06/experts-versus-...

Re: Funny Article on F1 as an Olympic Sport

Karting, Rallycross, and Superbikes strike me as the forms of Motorsport best suited for the Olympics. Cheaper, safer, more universal and aimed at a younger audience etc. I do wonder why Squash is not in the Olympics. Motorsport and Lacrosse would add some nice diversity as well. What about snowmobi...

Re: 2016 German Grand Prix Race Thread

What were the complete race times for the top 4? Hamilton was 1h30m and something seconds. Daniel was about 7 seconds down, Max was about 3-4 seconds down on Danny and Nico was 6 seconds behind Max going into the final lap. Nico thought he was in P2 except for the 8 second stop. Is he completely de...

Re: The 2016 Feeder Series Thread

Gasly won again today. He's tidying up his game, and has retaken the lead of the championship. With his single lap speed and now a consistent pace during races, he's my favorite to win it. This also means Kvyat is in danger of losing his seat. The more Gasly wins, the better his chances. Kvyat bein...

If he gets enough experience does he evolve into Haunter? Yes but then he will have to move to another team if he wants to develop any further. I'm lost who is Haunter? :? Just another pokerman :-P. Michael Schumacher was asked is he the best racing driver out the planet? "He said, how would I know? most people haven't ever raced a car. It could be a person in Indonesia who never had a chance" I can tell you that perhaps the greatest driver was born in 1979 in Finland. Now, before you tell me ...

Re: Vintage F1 thread

I think the Toro Rosso would be longer than 2.5 maters. I might have halved that in my memory - longer than 5 metres stacks up, when looking at this list (from AMuS reporter Tobias Gruener) of 2016 specs: https://twitter.com/tgruener/status/709064252074676226. Note the slight wheelbase increases ge...

Re: My top 100

It's probably fair to swap Hawthorn and Collins. I don't want to be 'that guy', but it is interesting to try and place the current drivers in each 'current driver' position: Alonso, Hamilton/Vettel, Raikkonen, Rosberg, Button/Massa? Grosjean/Ricciardo, Bottas? Hulkenberg over Perez? PS. I find the '...

Porsan: I agree that Ickx should be higher-rated. From 1968-1972 he was really fast and so good in the wet. Thereafter Ickx definitely slowed, perhaps due to maturity (?) family, etc. Suppose it depends on how drivers are measured: over whole careers r only at peaks/best seasons. Or before and afte...

Re: The 2016 Feeder Series Thread

* - out of curiosity, does anyone know how the cost of running in GP3 compares to 3.5? GP3 is on average £500k per year, a bit less for the slower teams, a bit more for the top teams. It's a shame we don't see Strakka with Bernstorff, Ellinas and Sasahara also driving in FV8 3.5, which would at lea...

Re: Official 2016 pecking order prediction!

Just realised that I left out Renault. But you can see why after the Chinese GP.. It'll be interesting to see whether this race, usually a rarity in the season in being front-wheel limited on tyre usage and degradation, is a marker for the rest of the season in respect of Haas dropping back, to be r...

Re: Vintage F1 thread

Lt Drebin: what an interesting photo which shows how cars have evolved : today's long wheelbases with small diameter wheels are what make them 'out of proportion' or ugly. Is this long wheelbase for aero or handling reasons? Anyone? Quere: what a beautiful pic of that Ferrari V12. Like a steam loco...

Re: Greatest Formula 1 driver

I believe this list is from the same person or persons involved with f1metrics. (at least that's what I read). I'd be surprised if that's true - there are several radical differences among the top drivers. Although Hamilton by coincidence is in the same place on both lists, practically everybody el...

Re: Webber's Comments / Dream Team

I'm surprised no one has mentioned a Hamilton and Vettel dream team just yet. It'd be interesting to throw them together into the top car team; we'd see another top car, top driver battle, just like we saw with Prost and Senna. Worst driver pairing at the moment is probably Rossi and Stevens. Rossi ...

Re: Magnussen to Replace Maldonado?

It'll also be interesting to see whether Renault will move to bring Ocon back under its young driver program. Frederic Vasseur, the likely new Renault Team Principal, is a big fan, and it's likely he will drive for ART in the DTM this year. However, if Renault can buy him back from Mercedes, this no...

Re: Best Driver from Each Teams History

I don't think the standard of the top drivers from any era has changed. Busy now analysing the 1900-1909 decade, and although those crude old cars looked like tractors, the competition between the teams and drivers was as exciting then as today. Glad to hear, as a fan of the series (which I discove...

Re: So what would you include in F1?

Funnily enough, I just wrote elsewhere that I would like to see test/reserve drivers getting FP1. It would give them something to do and contribute, add some variety to Fridays, possibly earn money for small teams and help to bed in young drivers, given the current restrictions on testing. They coul...
