So far on my amateur free-spirited nanotech spreadsheets where I use my eyes and limited reason to deduce performance, I have Verstappen a bit ahead of Hamilton after 2 races on performance. Re: Mercedes vs Red Bull - 2021
I think there is 2 components to this qualifying and the race itself, it has to be underlined how important qualifying is. In Bahrain Red Bull were faster in qualifying and the race, in Imola Red Bull were faster in qualifying but Mercedes faster in the race, I suspect given the conditions that mig...

Re: The Official Fernando Alonso thread
Its no surprise Alonso got outqualified by Ocon, I never expected something spectacular from his return. Bahrain with its track nature provide some playing ground to him, with more space, wide corners so he's classical style of leaning on the car, massive inputs of the steering wheel, playing with ...

. Due to the recovery, Hamilton. What did Max do that was equivalent ? For the last few years Hamilton has often been denied votes in the "driver of the day" threads because he basically just led from start to finish - but now that Max does that he gets loads of votes. Hilarious. . . Aight man.

Re: Official Valtteri Bottas Thread
That was some off-weekend for Bottas. I don't expect him to challenge Hamilton every race, but the gulf here was enormous. The Russel incident was unfortunate for both, but what we he doing being passes by a Williams anyway? Yes the chasm in quality and skill between Bottas and Hamilton was simply ...

Re: Driver(s) of the Day - 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix
So why all the votes for Max ? Strange viws on what makes a good drive on display here. . HAM started on pole but finished 2nd. VER started P3 but finished 1st. HAM made a massive mistake which cost him enormous time. VER made a mistake which could have cost him a couple of positions but LEC wasn't...

Re: Mercedes vs Red Bull - 2021
Really isn't much in it is there, but what is great is that when they are this close you really start to see the difference the great drivers make and how they handle the pressure. Max definitely handled it better than Lewis at Imola. That's two races of chaos he's won in the last 3 seasons (German...

Re: Mercedes vs Red Bull - 2021
Ultimately, when I think about which car should have won the race in Imola, I conclude it's RBR because they could and maybe should have locked out the front row, which should have been enough to confirm the win, given that their race pace was worst case scenario marginally worse than Merc's and giv...

Re: Mercedes vs Red Bull - 2021
In the mixed conditions in Imola, I think Merc were as fast or faster than RB once they got their tyres into the window, and faster at the end of stints. RB were much faster at the beginning of stints to the tune of several seconds over a few laps. It's simply very evenly matched overall between the...

Re: 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix Race Thread
What I like the most is how Max is saying it's a long season, stay calm - he's grounding the entire situation of the potential Championship fight. That was a real mixed bag for Hamilton. Unnecessary to try to hang on on Verstappen at the start but showed enough pace to possibly overcut him as the track started to dry, only for a slow change in the pits. Again, showing good pace to close Verstappen down after but his over-eagerness to pass the...

Re: 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix Race Thread
On the wet line, nominally you would never leave the dry line to pass into a corner on the wet line because there is no grip. I can't be the only one who thought Hamilton might go off before he did when you saw those heli shots of him happily getting his slicks wet. I thought he'd perhaps just go o...

Hamilton was way too eager to clear the backmarkers.
He was overpressing!
The race has been red flagged, quite predictably.

And it seems Quartararo is starting to come of age, combining his natural speed and flair with extra confidence and a greater maturity. Start will be delayed I'm sure. Nah, I'd like to see who has the balls to start on slicks. No where near wet enough for a delayed start. But I'm in the view that the race shouldn't be delayed because of a bit of rain. As I've said. With the races like in the 90s and 00s. We raced in worse and start...

Actually Bottas Could Impact the front today. It assumes that he gets a good clean getaway and the Merc has a substantial pace advantage on the cars 4th-7th, (LeClerc will be the most difficult, one would expect). Anyway if Valtteri gets up to 4th he could be right in the gap where Red Bull wants t...
