Re: 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Ye I can imagine that Hamilton-Verstappen is only just getting started and that they might go H2H for multiple Championship campaigns. Hamilton still seems fresh and hungry to me so I don't see him retiring when it's only just getting started, like Schumacher did after Alonso took him head-on for th...

Re: Emilia Romagna GP 2021 - Qualifier of the day?
Leclerc nailed it once again. Hamilton was relentless in Q3 with two very very good (though not quite perfect) laps.
I don't think Perez' lap was impressive in terms of absolute performance. RBR should have been on pole.
If Norris could have just held his final lap together, it would have been him.

Re: 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
Great session. Really enjoyed it. Impressed by Perez and Hamilton of course. We finally have a situation where someone in a great car who does a bad job doesn't qualify in the top 3 which is good. Red Bull have a split strategy with Perez starting on softs so Merc and Hamilton have a job on. This i...

Surprisingly unclutch from Verstappen in Q3 but still he's in a good position to attack Hamilton with his partner in crime. Perez must be feelin' real good right about now.

Re: 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
So now Red Bull get to play the 2 versus 1 game against Mercedes. Lando Norris ALMOST blew our minds. It's been an incredibly competitive qualifying session where the drivers really do get to make a huge difference to the outcome. Part of this is the nature of the track, but I really think this will...

I had to check when I first registered on here and it turns out to be about 9 / 10 years ago as it stands. Not that I've had an awful lot to contribute but when I have it's generally fallen into three categories: stupid (lame attempts to be witty), obvious (well, duh, yes...) and random (wtf are yo...

Re: 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
It only takes a little unreliability to put Hamilton at a points disadvantage to Bottas. Besides, if Toto is ruthless enough to deploy team orders on Sunday, he's ruthless enough to sack an uncooperative Bottas and swap in Vandoorne. Yeh maybe, though I can't imagine Bottas being uncooperative as s...

Re: 2021 Emilia Romagna (Imola) Grand Prix Free Practice & Qualifying Thread
I think it would be in Merc's best interest to let Bottas down slowly. Hamilton's general superiority should see him in the far better position to fight for the WDC even quite early on in the season. At this point they can ease Hamilton into a sort of definitive and transparent #1, earlier than in a...

I know Honda pulled out all the stops with their PU and attempted to incorporate radical designs which they supposedly shouldn't have had the time to pull off. Seems their PU competes with the Merc PU on raw performance, but at what cost?

I feel that possibly Schumacher was lucky that he joined when he joined. Back then he could add more value with these things, especially as he had experience working as a mechanic when he was young. Nowadays most things are done with simulation and less on-track testing. So maybe if he joined in 20...

Is Hamilton within Schumacher's margin of error? Probably. However, as Invade states in his post a small, consistent advantage leads very often to clean sweeps. Button was a bad 2008 from sweeping Barrichello and Hamilton was a bad 2011 from sweeping Button. This isn't quite what I said, or what I ...

Also, didn't Verstappen start to develop a very decisive advantage over Ricciardo through 2017 and 2018? Didn't he start to carve out something like a 0.2 second advantage? If so, that's quite immense against someone of Ricciardo's calibre, who is a very highly regarded qualifier. Not so much 2017....
